Planning Meals with a Family

This post is sponsored by FitzeeFoods,  I received a week of meals in exchange for an honest review.

I know you Mommas out there understand when I say Meal Prepping for your family is SO tough {especially when your kids are young}.  Feeding a picky toddler is an event in itself and I could save the details on that for an entire blogpost. Throw in a newborn and a husband, I don’t have a lot of time to plan or prepare healthy meals.

Going to the grocery store is a process with both of the kiddos, so I always try to go once my husband is home from work or on the weekend.  I typically plan my meals out a week in advance but there are times where I just don’t feel like it- I’m in a cooking funk or am simply lacking creativity!

Most of us by now, have heard about companies that mail fresh ingredients and instructions directly to your door. Those are great- the food is fresh and they always seem to give me some new ideas. However, there is still a lot of prep work involved, which again, is hard finding the time for these days!

Along comes Fitzee Foods…….

From the website:

“We provide healthier versions of American Classics that makes the easy choice the healthy choice. Unlike grocery shopping, prepping, cooking and cleaning, FITzee saves your precious time, money and waistline. Many FITzee Foods products appeal to dietary needs and restrictions such as paleo, gluten free, and dairy free. Whether you want to lose, gain or maintain weight, the name of the game is portion control, but a healthy diet is not just about portion control, it’s also what’s in the food that counts. FITzee provides a variety of meals from paleo spaghetti to red chicken enchiladas to paleo BBQ pork. We know that life gets really busy so when you don’t have time to cook—Think FITzee! We like to think of ourselves as a healthy alternative to fast food.

We received 12 small meals that I shared between me and the hubby…and some for Charlotte. At first, I was thinking that these won’t taste that great but I will give it a try.  In my experience most premade meals aren’t that great.

The first meal I ate was the Red Chicken Enchiladas and I have to say, I was super impressed! And the fact that the meals weren’t packed with a ton of gross ingredients that I couldn’t pronounce.

I wanted hubby to try some meals too without any prompting, just to see what he would say! He was pleasantly surprised as well and shocked when he read the nutrition information! His fav was the Paleo Carne Asada Bowl (this man loves his meat). Sadly, he ate that one all up before I could snap a picture or try it out myself!

{pictured is the BBQ pork and sweet potatoes meal}.

What I also loved besides the taste & convenience factor, was not having to do dishes and the portions were just right for us.

I don’t think it is something I’d do ALL the time, however, it would be great to add this in on weeks when the husband is traveling, after getting back from a trip, or even when I’m just in a cooking funk!

Quick Eats for Busy Moms

Happy Friday Blogger Friends!

I am in serious disbelief that it is already the middle of July….that means Donovan is 2 months! It sure has been a blur! The days are busy juggling the two of them but we are making it work. And little man is growing growing, he’s already out of Newborn clothes….that didn’t last long. I’m anxious to see how much he weighs when we go in for his well check next week.

These little smiles are so precious!!

Next week is also a big week because Miss Charlie is starting swim lessons!! So so cute, I can’t wait. Since we have a pool, I want her to be super comfortable with the water ASAP. We already take her in with us and she loves splashing around.

So two months in with two kiddos and I can still say that the days are CRAZY busy. I’m sure that isn’t going to change much, I will likely just get used to it. (lol) Now that Charlotte is finally eating more, I spend a lot of my time prepping her snacks and meals. On top of that, feeding Donovan doesn’t leave much time for my food prep  during the day. For dinners I’ve been relaying on the crockpot and leftovers 😉

Since I’m breastfeeding, I’m really trying to pay attention to what is going into my body. One of the perfect ways for me to get lots of fruits quickly is with Smoothies. And there is something about summertime that always makes me crave one….must be that 100 degrees temperature. My go-to smoothie of late has been: strawberries, banana, blueberries, almond milk and a scoop of Bobs Red Mill protein powder. Major yum.

In my box I received:

Medierra Bars: I am SUPER picky with my snack bars. I have tried almost everything out there and usually don’t like the healthier options that much (go figure). I was seriously surprised about this one. I sampled the Pistachio & Honey flavor and it was so yummy! The Seasame base reminded me of granola. I haven’t seen these at the regular old grocery store yet, but I’m going to look for them the next time I head to Whole Foods. I’m a little hesitant about the Black Olive & Walnut flavor, so I will probably stick to the Sesame based flavors. 🙂

Pure Charge Nutrition Protein & Quest Protein: Chocolate flavored protein powders have always been my favorite. Whenever I make a protein shake, I mix in yogurt, almond milk and fruit. I honestly couldn’t tell a difference between the two products, granted I mix in so much goodness so that could be why! 🙂

Pocket Protein: This product will be great to sample when I’m upping my endurance training, like training for a half marathon.  Since I’m not, this isn’t something I feel like I would use on a daily basis.

Ips Chips: These were great- very light and crunchy. I ended up eating the bag a little quicker than planned. I feel like that always happens with chips like this. I sampled the White Cheddar flavor and would probably really love the Seat Salt flavor!

Choice Organic Teas Mental Focus: I’m not a big tea drinker, but I wish I was because I know it’s healthier than coffee! This flavor was yummy, but I don’t have the urge to necessarily search for it at the grocery store!
