Exercise at 38 Weeks Pregnant

This will likely be my last post before I’ll have 2 kiddos under 2 at home. Oh boy! We’ve been super busy lately keeping up with Charlotte plus trying to get ready for the little man’s arrival (as ready as we can be).

I’m happy that I have made it this far into the pregnancy- (I had Charlotte and Declan at 34 1/2 weeks). Baby boy is definitely growing, but oh man I am starting to feel real uncomfortable. The last couple weeks is rough, especially when you already have a kid!! It’s way different than the first pregnancy when I could nap or sit down when I wanted to!

Sleep is getting tough, showering,¬†getting dressed and picking up Charlotte is a lot of work! So, let’s just say I’m happy to have him here and not in my belly anymore! ūüôā

I never got around to getting any maternity pictures done with my first pregnancy, so we did a few this time and it was fun having my little love join in!

Little Miss has no idea she’s going to be sharing my attention real soon. Ha- should be interesting! Thankfully, Damon has 2 weeks off work and then my mom will be in town after that so I’ll have some good help the first month!

Besides being able to sleep normally, I’m seriously craving a good workout. Like a good cardio, HIIT routine or a long run! Oh man, that sounds glorious!! The hubby is currently training for a 1/2 marathon and I’m so jealous. Of course I’ll be released to exercise again when it’s starting to get real hot and toasty here… that’ll be a shocker to the system.

It’s tough as I was just getting back into running shape and then found out I was pregnant again when Charlotte was about 6 months. So,¬†I’ve had to slow it all down just when I was¬†beginning to ramp back up. I am¬†lucky that my¬†doc has still okayed¬†me to walk and take modified Pure Barre classes. As long as I’m not pushing myself too hard and I’m staying hydrated, he said I can go for it! Honestly it’s hard having to take so many breaks to catch my breath and just feeling overall fatigue.¬†Like I wake up in the morning and my legs just feel heavy….probably has something to do with carrying that extra weight around!¬†I’ve cut my walks down to about 15-20 minutes and I took Pure Barre only 2x last week. And don’t get me wrong, my barre classes are super modified, but it still feels good to somewhat move my body. These last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to balance resting but letting myself move around as I won’t be able to for another 6 weeks!!

I don’t really have a point to get to so thanks for listening to me ramble on and on- ha!

Mommas: Were you Exercising the last few weeks of Pregnancy?

Hope everyone has a lovely Monday! Thanks for stopping by!

29 Weeks Pregnancy Update

I can’t believe it took me this long to do another pregnancy update! I’m now officially in the 3rd Trimester, OMG. Time is flying!

29 weeks

I spy a cute little photo bomber!

I passed my Glucose test last week, so that takes some worry away! Apparently if I had failed that test, I’d have to do a 3-hour one. No Thank You!

So, let’s see what the little guy is up to (all info is from )

  • Baby is as big as an Acorn Squash, measuring 15.2-16.7 inches
  • Baby weighs 2.5- 3.8 pounds
  • The little guy¬†could triple his weight before birth (oh man)
  • Baby is growing white fat deposits under his skin which can lead to a surge in energy
  • Baby could also begin hiccupping
 My Symptoms?
Overall, I don’t have much to complain about…besides the typical feeling tired and constantly
hungry.¬†¬†I do notice I’m getting out of breath quicker and my back feels tired at the end of
the day, which I can attribute to lifting and chasing after Charlotte. She’s probably going to be
walking in the next month-ish so that’ll be interesting keeping up with her when I’m 30+ weeks
I’ve still be able to take Pure Barre Classes 2-3x a week, which is always feels¬†SO great. I am
having to heavily modify abdominal work and obviously do plank and push-ups from my knees.
But besides that, I can go through arms, thighs, and seat with no problem!
I’m just thankful I can still get a good workout in.¬†¬†The last month I have really
missed running, especially since I was just getting back into it after the last pregnancy. I plan on
taking classes as long as I can and of course listening to my doctor if he says I need to stop. And
of course I’m still taking the dog on walks- I’m sure they are slower than she would like but it’s
better than nothing! ūüôā
We are in the process of getting that organized. I have some wonderful friends that have
donated tons of boy clothes to us, so the little man’s¬†closet is filling up quick!
The theme for our nursery is Vintage Sports. (Not shocking, if you know my husband).
I found some really cute prints from Etsy and can’t
wait to hang them up!
vintage sports
Cute, right?
We still need to find a changing table, changing pad, and some other little décor things for the
nursery. I’m going to try to get away with not buying a dresser and using some bins in the closet
for socks, hats, pants, and pajamas. Hopefully that works! ūüôā
If you are currently pregnant or have a kid, what was your nursery theme?
Have a great Thursday!!

At-Home Prenatal Exercise

Hey all!

I hope everyone has had a great week and weekend! We had a long weekend over here since my hubby had Monday off from work, yay! It’s always nice to get that extra day with him and I know he enjoys the extra time with Charlotte too. We hung out at home and relaxed for the most part, which was much needed.

We did accomplish one thing this weekend though……we finished watching “Making a Murderer.” EVERYONE was talking about this so of course we had to tune in. I don’t want to say much about it so I don’t give anything away, but if you have Netflix you should tune in. We were hooked!

We also spontaneously¬†went out to dinner together one night since we both didn’t feel like cooking or thinking up what to get¬†from the store.

There is a small Tex-Mex restaurant super close to home that we’ve actually never been to yet, so I’m glad we finally tried it out. We’ll be back! Kid Friendly, Good Food, TV’s, and the hubby thoroughly enjoyed his Margarita. I’ll get to try one this summer. ūüôā

Charlotte had a good time too! ūüôā

Now that I am 22 weeks along, I can definitely feel my energy is back to normal. Hooray!¬†This means¬†I can be more consistant about my workout routine each week.¬† I never fully feel like myself if I can’t get in some sort of workout.

I just finished a continuing education course for my Stroller Strides instructor¬†Certification on Exercise¬†during Pregnancy, and it continued to highlight how important it is to stay active. (of course, you always need to get approval from your doctor). In a nutshell, if there are no complications during your pregnancy there is no reason you should stop exercise. Actually you are encouraged to be active “most days of the week.” Love it! If you would like to review the ACOG guidelines, follow this link.

Each week I try to get in 4-5 workouts, which isn’t drastically different from my norm.¬† Lately I have been doing 2-3 days of a strength workout (either barre or something else) and 2 days of long walks (no more running for me, waaaaaa). Besides how great of a workout Pure Barre is, I also really like being able to get out of the house and focus on just me for an hour. Of course things come up, so I can’t always make it to the studio. So I need to have some at home options.

I used both of these DVD’s last year when I was pregnant and really enjoyed them.

The Slim and Toned DVD was great for arms and thighs and Suzanne does a great job slowing the workout down and gives lots of explanations throughout.

One of the reasons I really like the Tracy Anderson DVD’s is that there is a new workout for each month, so it doesn’t get boring. Her moves are similar to Pilates and Barre type exercise so it’s also a¬†great low impact workout.

She does do¬†A LOT¬†of seat work and if that isn’t your jam then you may not like the DVD’s. My favorite part of her workouts are the arm segments.

And that’s all I have here, thanks for stopping by!

Pregnancy #2 Update

Hey Hey!

So this is kind of funny……I had written a ‘pregnancy announcement’ blog post last month and forgot to actually post it. Haha! We announced my pregnancy on social media but looks like I neglected the blog. Oopsie!!

So….let’s play catch up real quick!

  • We found out I was pregnant in September (Surprise!)
  • Charlotte was almost 7 months at the time (cue¬†panic realizing they will be 14 1/2 months apart)
  • We decided to do an early blood test to find out the gender at 11 weeks……
  • And we found out we are having a….BOY!

So today I am just about 21 weeks. I can’t believe how fast it has gone by! Considering our experience with Declan, we are both feeling pretty optimistic and excited. Of course there is some anxiousness and worry after going through what we did last time, but it’s comforting that my doctor is confident and everything has been right¬†on track.

Physically where am I at?

Definitely growing and way bigger than I was last time…which is funny considering I was carrying twins last pregnancy.

Once I got out of the 1st trimester, I haven’t had many complaints besides being tired and constantly hungry. Sleep has been better now since Charlotte is sleeping steadily through the night (6 nights in a row, woo hoo!)

I’m trying to take Pure Barre classes 2x a week and go on daily walks with the dog and stroller in tow. I was jogging up until a couple weeks ago, but stopped because I was just feeling heavy. So no more running for me for a little while! I’ll try to post a few more pregnancy updates as we go along!

Hey look, it’s Charlotte- the¬†Smallest Big Sister ever. Ha!

Flexibility Training During Pregnancy

Hello, hello!

I finally have a few spare minutes to get back on the ‘ol blog train! It’s been super busy with visitors and traveling back and forth to the NICU each day.

Thankfully, the little one is doing great and gaining weight so she should be home in the next couple of weeks. I can’t wait!!

This is my favorite picture so far of Charlotte, she loves bath time obviously! I can’t look at this picture and not smile (or laugh). Ha!

Onto stretching…..and boy oh boy, I’d say these stretches feel just as amazing during pregnancy as they do afterwards!

Remember during pregnancy it’s important not to push the stretches too much as our ligaments and joints are more lax due to the hormone relaxin getting us prepped for giving birth. The stretch should be pushed to very mild discomfort and always stop if anything is painful!

Below are video links to the Stretches listed above!

Pec Doorway Stretch

Standing Hip Flexor Stretch

Piriformis Stretch

QL Stretch

Calf Stretch

¬†Are there any Stretches you’d add to the list- Pre/Post Partum?

Do you Stretch daily?

32 Weeks Pregnancy Update

32 Weeks

It’s getting down to crunch time you guys, yikes!! At my last appointment the Doc said that on average twins come at 36 weeks and we won’t go past 38 weeks. Oh man, about a month left…babybump

Here’s what the babies have been up to this week:

  • They babies are now the size of a Squash.
  • They both weigh about 3 3/4 pounds and are 16.7 inches long. Definitely taking up more space!
  • I will be gaining about 1 pound per week and half of that goes to the babies!
  • They now have toenails, fingernails, and some real hair.

Here’s what has been going on with me this week:

Total Weight Gain: Not sure, I’ll find out at my next appointment.

Stretch Marks: Nope ūüôā

Sleep: It has defnintley been broken up a little more. I always wake up once to use the restroom and sometimes to eat some cereal….those babies are hungry!!

Best Moment this week: Seeing the nursery almost all finished, we just need a couple more little things and we are ready….well technically anyways. ūüôā

Workouts: Been slowing down a lot more the past couple of weeks. Still been walking miss Paisley daily, but at a much slower pace (which I’m sure she hates), and did my prenatal barre DVD at home a couple times.

Movement: I’m feeling more rolling types of movements than kicks, probably because their space is getting a little more cramped.

Food Cravings: Nothing out of the ordinary this week- cereal, milk, smoothies, and Queso….YUM!

Sick or queasy? Nope, thankfully!

Miss Anything: Being able to get up from sitting or lying down easily, wine, and not feeling so tired!

Looking forward to: Completely finishing up the nursery and my next prenatal appointment!

Being the planner that I am, I started packing my hospital bag so that will be one last thing to worry about when the time comes. I’ll share the deets once it’s all complete. I loved picking out their going home outfits….so fun!

Well that’s all on the pregnancy front for now….I’m enjoying my last month of¬†quiet time and freedom but getting more¬†excited for their arrival¬†ūüôā

For the momma’s out there, what did you pack in your hospital bag?

Anything you could or couldn’t live without?

As always, thanks for stopping by! ~M

9 Pregnancy Must-Haves

Happy Friiiday!

Any exciting plans this weekend? Hubby and I have lots of dinner dates with friends this weekend (tonight, Saturday and Sunday). We’re getting all of that in before we are more housebound with the babies! And speaking of babies, today I’m officially at 30 weeks. OMG, time is flying by! (I’ll post a weekly update soon, I’ve been slacking on that)

Since I’ve made it through a big chunk with the pregnancy, I wanted to share some of my must have products for all of you expecting ladies out there!

Bump Nest Pillow

You may remember this post from a few months ago. The pillow was an immediate¬†hit with the entire household! Paisley and hubby¬†both thought¬†the pillow was for them….and still do. ¬†It’s so comfy, I will probably keep using it after the babies are here.

Prenatal Gummy Vitamins

I’m not a huge fan of swallowing pills, so when I saw that there were prenatal gummy vitamins, I was sold. The taste is very mild so it’s no biggie taking them daily.

Bella Band

This prolonged how long I could wear regular jeans and work pants. Just leave your pants unbuttoned and put the bella band over it. Easy!

Yoga Pants

This has been my staple wardrobe as of late and probably will continue that way when the babies arrive.¬†¬†Of course lately, I’ve been having to roll them down a bit¬†to make room for the belly,¬†but they¬†are just as comfy. ¬†I’m going to treat myself to one new pair as a “good job on making it through¬†a twin¬†pregnancy” present, lol! I’ve been eyeing this pair of Zella pants for awhile now. Perfect for Spring, don’t you think?

Ben and Jerry’s

Yep I went there. My go-to has been the Half Baked Frozen Yogurt. It makes me feel less guilty since it’s fro-yo. Yummy!

Maternity Leggings

Since I was pregnant during the winter, these were a big staple in my wardrobe. My mom bought me a pair from Nordy’s and I’ve been pleased with them. They were perfect to wear with boots.

Belly Lotions

I’ve used a variety of these lotions and I must say they are all¬†working their magic so far. I started using a cream morning and night once I found out I was pregnant.

 Long Tank Tops

They don’t necessarily need to be maternity, I have a mix of both and wear them everyday. Great for layering, comfy, and long enough you don’t need to worry about them creeping up! Target has a ton of inexpensive options.

A Prenatal Workout DVD

Whatever your workout of choice is, they will surely have a prenatal option for you! I loved my Suzanne Bowen Barre DVD and Tracy Anderson¬†Pregnancy Project DVD’s to mix in with my regular workouts. ¬†Both of these DVD’s have great arm sections btw.

And there you have it folks!

What are/were your pregnancy must-haves?

Anything else you would recommend?

Have a great weekend lovelies! ~Marielle
