Looking Back on 2016

The week between Christmas and New Years always leaves me with mixed feelings- I love the slower pace as majority of people are off work or still on vacation. But it’s also such a bummer taking down all of our Christmas decorations.  The build-up to the Holiday season is getting longer and longer each year and then BAM, it’s over! I love seeing all of our Christmas cards displayed over our mantel, walking through our neighborhood seeing all of the houses decked out with lights, it all just leaves me with a warm feeling. Needless to say, our decorations are still up…..we’ll get to those, eventually.

When I think back to 2016, it’s hard for me to put in words how 2016 and what we did! Haha!  Taking care of a very young toddler and a baby sure makes the days long, tiring, fun, sweet, exciting, and just plain exhausting.  I feel like we are just now moving out of that “new baby fog” since Donovan has been sleeping through the night (Finally)! The 6am wakeups are not awesome, but much better than it used to be.  I feel like some parts of our lives this past year were kind of put on hold as we were in survival mode at times!

Looking back on those crazy days I am so thankful for my husband & seeing how close him and Charlotte are is just so sweet!

Also having such a great network of mom friends has been a serious lifesaver. Four of my best girlfriends here all had babies within a few months of Donovan. This sure made those late night nursing sessions a little less lonely!

I look towards 2017 with anticipation and excitement: Charlotte is starting two days a week of Preschool, we are planning on doing a family vacation (with ALL 4 of us), I want to start delving more into the fitness profession with a Pilates certification this Spring, and I look forward to watching Donovan grow into a toddler!

{This boy sure has me wrapped around his finger}

I’m thankful for this little space of the internet and do anticipate carving out more time to be here in the New Year!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy NYE celebration this week!

Cheers to 2017!

Wednesday Inspiration

Hello Blog Friends~ I’ve been a little quiet lately- lots going on with life, work and little bits of traveling. But, I’ll be back more consistently soon. I’m attending the Sweat Pink Blog Fest Conference in August and can’t wait!

blogfestI’m really looking forward to it and I think it will motivate me to get back on track with the ‘ol blogging schedule.

Today, I wanted to share some daily inspiration with you that seemed to be speaking specifically to me this morning.

I subscribe to the free daily emails from Brave Girls Club. If you have never heard of it, check out the website. (I’m not receiving anything in return about mentioning this site, I just really like it and want to spread the word). Their website describes their organization as:

“Brave Girls Club is a worldwide community of women (of every age) who want to live the best, happiest, most productive and fabulously brave lives they can possibly live…and that means something different to every single one of us.”

Here’s today’s daily truth:

Dear Impatient Girl,

Sometimes we need to just let life surprise us a little instead of trying so hard to control every single outcome for every single thing…isn’t it exhausting?

Gorgeous soul….look back on all of the other times you’ve tried with all of your might to hold things together, put things together and keep things together so that everything would be perfectly in place for the exact things to happen that you were so determined to make happen. Remember how things happened completely differently than you ever could have dreamed….but that they worked out exactly the way they were supposed to? (even if it was painful or uncomfortable?)

Life has a way of surprising us whether we are ready for it or not…whether we worry our little heads off or whether we plan our fingers right down to the bone….life still surprises us.

So….let the worries go for a bit. Let yourself chill and be still. TRUST THE JOURNEY and trust yourself. No matter what happens, you will make it and you will make it into something beautiful and wonderful….just like you always have.

Surprises are fun.

I’ll back soon and thanks again as always for reading! 🙂

Do your thing!

Happy Wednesday lovely friends. This week has so far been comfortable and steady, not too stressful so I’m happy about that! 🙂

I hope I’m not going on over-kill with the quotes on here, but I just feel like I need to share this one today! quote

I love this one so much I even printed it out and have it hanging up next to my make up makeup mirror.

I have a really hard time (well I think women do, in general) comparing myself to what others are doing and sometimes feel like I need to be doing the exact same….whether it’s little superficial things like: having certain clothes or a hair style or bigger things like: owning a home or attending more schooling.

There are times when I think we all need to take a step back and just say “who cares?” I’m reminding myself that I’m here to live my life and to do what is right for me 🙂

Speaking of doing something for me, I took the plunge and signed up for my first ever Blog Conference this summer!

It’s also piggy-packing on a Fitness Conference, which I need CEU’s anyways, so it works out to be quite perfect!

The conference is held through Idea Fit and will be in Anaheim, California (45 min away from my home, sweet deal)

The first two days is full of blog sessions: tutorials, lectures, etc as well as workouts. I’m pretty excited to meet the ladies behind some of blogs that I read almost everyday. Should be informative and a good time I’m sure!

Read more about the Schedule and Presenter bios at the corresponding links.

Any tips for first timers attending a blog conference?

Moving On

Happy Friday Everyone!! And Happy Long Weekend too.

I can’t believe that it’s basically September already…..not sure where summer went??!

If you read my most recent post, you know all the changes that have been on with us this past month. (Maybe that’s why August flew by)

Getting a new job was a big deal for me and took a lot of time for me to make that decision. Without going into too much deal, I was at a crossroads knowing that this wasn’t the right place for me to grow in my career and I wasn’t as happy as I have been before with past jobs.

But at the same time I was struggling with that fact that I was fortunate to have a job and it was comfortable.

I ran across this quote on Pinterest awhile back and it always kind of “stuck” with me.

For some reason I had a hard time coming to my final decision because it was something I had to do on my own- no one could tell me what’s right or what’s wrong. I had to decide what was in the best interest for ME and not for anyone else.

In between jobs I’m taking a week off, which is going to be fabulous. There is still so much here in LA that I haven’t been able to explore, so I am hoping to get in some touristy stuff and relaxing too of course. 🙂

I’ll be back soon with a new workout to share!

Happy 2013

I’m back!!

I guess it hasn’t been THAT long but it seems like it because we’ve done so much the past week. And I missed my blogging time! We went back to Seattle after Christmas until last night. This was the first time since we moved that we both came back to Seattle together. It was a super busy trip spending time with our family and friends driving all over, but I’m happy we were able to visit. It’s strange to live in a place for so long, be away for awhile, then come back and everything is kind of the same.

Like my Friends! So fun catching up with all these pretty faces…..

football girls

I love Seattle and miss certain parts of it…mostly my good friends and family, but at the same time I’m happy to explore a new city and start a new life here. Who knows if we’ll stay here in California, go back to Seattle, or move somewhere else in the next few years…but for now I’m trying to enjoy our time here and appreciate all this amazing city has to offer.

I usually don’t seriously think about my New Years Resolutions or Goals…..but writing this blog motivated me to sit down and think about it. So here it goes- I decided to make an intention for myself personally, fitness-wise, and professionally.

Live in the Moment

Being the huge planner that I am, I have such a hard time with this. It’s so silly to rush from experience to experience and not allowing yourself to pause and appreciate where you are RIGHT NOW. Like I said before I don’t know where we will be living 2 years down the road, so my job right now is to experience and enjoy.

Try New Exercise Classes or Activities

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know how much I love to run and go to my Bar Method classes. I’m not abandoning them by any means, but I want to branch out and try something new. I’m lucky to live in a city where there are boutique fitness studios/trends/and new classes popping up constantly….so I don’t really have an excuse to miss out. As luck would have it, Groupon had a deal for 3 Pop Physique classes in my area. Score. And only $30!

The website describes Pop Physique as a “ballet inspired exercise system into an efficient one hour class set to excellent music that belnds elements of ballet, Pilates, and light weight work into a methodical series of strengthening, isometrics, core shaping, and luxuriating stretches.”

Now I know it doesn’t sound THAT different from Bar Method, (and I’m sure it’s pretty similar) but hey I have to start somewhere, right?! Baby Steps! 🙂 I’m hoping this spring to try Paddle Boarding….I’e heard it’s a great core workout.

Offer Online Personal Training.

I really miss Personal Training, and haven’t been able to add it into my schedule right now- so I think this would be a great way for me to stay involved in the personal training community. And it may grow into something else in the future…who knows?! I need to get all the logistics and details worked out….but expect to see it sometime in 2013…hopefully sooner than later!

Okay, now that these are all written out I feel like I need to follow through… thank you blog and blog readers for keeping me on track and allowing me focus on myself.

Cheers to 2013…I hope everyone has a great first day of the new year!

It’s All About Perspective

Happy Happy Sunday! I’ve had a busy and relaxing weekend.  My parents were in town visiting from Seattle, so we’ve been pretty busy showing them around.

Friday I had to work until 4, so we just grabbed dinner close to our house.  Saturday I got in a 40 minute morning run, then we went to Manhattan Beach for lunch and to watch football.  And of course, took a walk out on the pier.  I swear this beach view never gets old.

Saturday night we had dinner in Santa Monica and had the most amazing appetizer! Bacon-Wrapped Dates with goat cheese and almonds. OMG. They were seriously amazing.  I’m going to try to re-create these at home too…..we’ll see how they turn out. 🙂 Obsessed.

This morning we got up early and headed to the Griffith Observatory.  My hubby and I haven’t been here yet, so I was really excited to see it.  It is a great spot that has a view of the entire city (hollywood, century city, downtown LA).  It was a little foggy, but we’re still glad we went.

I finally got to see the Hollywood sign! We have  lived here since March and haven’t made it to see the Hollywood sign yet, so now I’m happy! 🙂

We got back from lunch and I convinced the whole family to walk/run around a track in our neighborhood.  We all ate A LOT this weekend, so we everyone agreed they felt better after getting some exercise in.  Now we are back home and plan on grilling steaks and watching a movie.  Perfect end to the weekend.

Random tangent. (Just to warn you all, lol).

I was thinking the other day that when my parents come in town, they are going to think our 68 degrees weather is hot.  Because to them, (especially this time of the year), it is.  But for us living in Southern California, it’s not, and we’ll definitely see people wearing boots and scarves, because to them it’s cold.

It all comes back to perspective.

Such a simple thing, but makes a big difference in our moods, goals, and general outlook on life.  It got me thinking how I go through my daily routine.

*If I assume that everyone in LA isn’t friendly, then I’m probably going to have a hard time meeting friendly people.

*If I assume someone is going to be rude, then whatever they do I’ll take it as them being rude.

*If I assume that I’m going to have a stressful day at work, then stressful situations will find me.

I’m starting my New Years Resolution early this year and am going to try to change my perspective  everyday to a positive one.  This also ties into being happy and appreciating all the blessings and things I already do have.

When I run into a difficult situation,  my perspective will make a big difference in how I respond to it.  Just like the title in my blog, we live in a pretty world and we all need to start looking at it that way.

I think having this blog will help keep me on track, so that I can report back to you all on how I’m doing with this.

Thanks for listening, I know this post is a little all over the place, but that’s how my brain can be sometimes!

What did you do this past weekend?

Do you have any easy time keeping a positive perspective each day?

Later Party People.
