To Race or Not to Race?

Hello Hello!

It just hit me this morning that Halloween is next week. OMG! Our weather has been cooling down at night, but we still get up to the 80’s in the afternoons…so ya, I don’t believe that it is actually the middle/end of October!  We are gearing up for our first year Trick or Treating around our neighborhood. We even got our dog a costume, just so she wouldn’t feel left out. Haha!

So along with the weather cooling down, I’ve been able to get in more running lately.  And it has been feeling so good. I got back from a run last night and was telling my husband how much better I feel mentally and physically after getting in a run. There’s something about it that just clears my mind!

So I’m thinking I need to get back on the race train. Sometimes I need that extra motivator that will keep me honest with my training schedule and push myself. But then I don’t want to overcommit myself with something right now, because well, life is so busy. So that’s where I’m at. Maybe getting some pretty new running shoes will help make my decision? Haha! There is a half marathon coming up in February and I’m strongly considering it.

Ahhhh, look how pretty these are!! I found these beauties while perusing the Nordstrom site!

Now that I am upping my milage, I am beginning to crave sports drinks after those long runs. I go back in forth with sports drinks, since so many of them are typically so high in sugar and/or artificial sweeteners. So, it was really good timing that I was able to try out a new brand called LyteZone!   I was more intrigued after reading more about the product on their website and this from one of the founders below:

Being very active (surfing, basketball, hiking) and enjoying the occasional adult beverage, I always wanted to add electrolytes to Drinkwel. I constantly experimented with hydration and electrolytes. Think coconut water, ‘ade’ products, salt capsules, and even pickle juice! Nothing really fit as there wasn’t anything that would reasonably fit in our Drinkwel pills.
The more I dove into hydration and electrolytes, the more I realized the existing products on the market weren’t great (and often contained lots of negative fillers, sweeteners, and coloring). It’s still crazy to me how low quality the average sports drink is. If these products are for athletes, why are so many corners being cut?
After a lot of research and testing, we created LyteShow and a personal obsession with electrolytes and hydration was born.
At LyteLine, we’re all about BETTER hydration. We always use/drink/take the products we make ourselves. We’re not selling sugar water and our products do not taste like your typical sports drinks. They’re intense because our commitment to hydration is intense.”
Yours,
Mike, Co-Founder

I have tried my fair share of sports drinks and electrolyte replacements, especially in my marathon training days. Honestly, a lot of them tasted the same as their competitor product. So I was expecting this to taste like many of the other drinks out there. I wanted my husband to try one as well, just to hear his unbiased opinion. Well, we both drank one after running separately and basically said the same thing, “I like it, it tastes like carbonated water.” And I must say, I’m a big fan of them not being too sweet!  We have one left in our fridge, which is supposed to be for me after a long run this weekend. Ha, maybe that’s some extra motivation I need right there!

You can follow LyteLine on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

*I was given a complimentary box of LyteZone in exchange for an honest review of the product*

Staying Motivated to Workout

Hello everyone and Happy Friiiiiday!!

I don’t have much new to report on our front. We are currently gearing up for Miss C’s first week of preschool, omg!! {It’s only 2 half days, but it’s a big step for her and us}. I’ll try not to cry in front of her and am looking forward to some one on one time with Donovan! I already have her first day of school outfit picked out, lol. Don’t worry, I’ll be sharing some pictures of course!

As you probably already know, exercise has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up playing sports so it’s normal for me to “go workout.” my body has changed and I can’t play multiple intense soccer games each week like I used to. Today I’m sharing some of my tips for staying motivated to workout.

Try Something New

If you don’t look forward to your workout, you are going to find any excuse to NOT workout. If your routine is feeling stale, switch things up! There are so many boutique fitness studios, gyms, group exercise classes and online workouts these days it’s actually overwhelming! I keep hearing about Orange Theory, so that’s on my list to try out soon!

Get a Workout Buddy

Grab a friend, significant other, or family member to workout with you or even virtually. The last few months I’ve been hardcore keeping up with the Tone it Up Plan. Each week, I print out the schedule and fit in the workouts when I can. I used to be a big gym person, but with the two little ones at home, that’s just not feasible. I squeeze in a workout during naptime or after bed….and sometimes they join me!

Have Something to Train For

This doesn’t mean you need to sign up for a triatholon. Set a goal to train for an upcoming vacation, a work event or buy yourself a new pair of shoes after one month of a consistant routine. You get it, be creative here. I do want to get back to half marathon training and am considering a race early 2018. For now, I’m trying to keep up with teaching Strides and Pop Pilates classes as well as maintaining a consistent routine.

Wear Something Comfortable

You want to feel good while you workout so keep that in mind when choosing your exercise attire. I live in my athleisure clothes these days so comfort is a priority! Also, my tip for staying motivated to workout, along with few others, was featured in a recent graphic. Check it out below!

 How fun is this?

While of course I don’t have personal experience wearing boxer briefs (lol), but I’m thinking this will be a PERFECT gift for the man in your life! Hello early Christmas shopping! My husband NEVER shops for himself and I’m eyeing these boxer briefs for him.

A little bit about The Tommy John company & Creator:

Fixing things” doesn’t mean tugging at your crotch or pulling up your socks again. It means finding a solution to this age-old problem, once and for all. It means understanding how men move, combining innovative fabric technologies and tweaking the fit down to the placement of the last stitch. Tom made this task his mission.
That’s why he quit his job and started Tommy John. With the support of his wife, Erin, a local tailor and a small team of designers, Tom re-imagined the fit, feel and function of man’s most fundamental layers. He built and patented new features from scratch. The result? Shirts that stay tucked, socks that stay up and underwear that keeps everything in place, whichever way a man moves

Looking Back on 2016

The week between Christmas and New Years always leaves me with mixed feelings- I love the slower pace as majority of people are off work or still on vacation. But it’s also such a bummer taking down all of our Christmas decorations.  The build-up to the Holiday season is getting longer and longer each year and then BAM, it’s over! I love seeing all of our Christmas cards displayed over our mantel, walking through our neighborhood seeing all of the houses decked out with lights, it all just leaves me with a warm feeling. Needless to say, our decorations are still up…..we’ll get to those, eventually.

When I think back to 2016, it’s hard for me to put in words how 2016 and what we did! Haha!  Taking care of a very young toddler and a baby sure makes the days long, tiring, fun, sweet, exciting, and just plain exhausting.  I feel like we are just now moving out of that “new baby fog” since Donovan has been sleeping through the night (Finally)! The 6am wakeups are not awesome, but much better than it used to be.  I feel like some parts of our lives this past year were kind of put on hold as we were in survival mode at times!

Looking back on those crazy days I am so thankful for my husband & seeing how close him and Charlotte are is just so sweet!

Also having such a great network of mom friends has been a serious lifesaver. Four of my best girlfriends here all had babies within a few months of Donovan. This sure made those late night nursing sessions a little less lonely!

I look towards 2017 with anticipation and excitement: Charlotte is starting two days a week of Preschool, we are planning on doing a family vacation (with ALL 4 of us), I want to start delving more into the fitness profession with a Pilates certification this Spring, and I look forward to watching Donovan grow into a toddler!

{This boy sure has me wrapped around his finger}

I’m thankful for this little space of the internet and do anticipate carving out more time to be here in the New Year!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy NYE celebration this week!

Cheers to 2017!

3 Goals For Fall

Ahhhhh, my favorite time of year….pumpkin lattes, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies, boots, and scarves. Here’s to hoping I can wear these soon, considering it is still 75-80 degrees here in LA.

I was inspired by the Tone it Up Frisky Fall Challenge to set some goals for myself this season. Fall is a perfect time to reset and focus on healthy habits before the craziness of the holiday season.

Practice Yoga1x/Week

yoga1source

Over the weekend a girlfriend and I went to a lululemon free community yoga class. It felt great to say the least. I could tell I was a little out of practice, but it’s seriously amazing how relaxed my mind and body feel afterwards. I talk about how great Yoga is constantly, yet I’ve been slacking on taking that time to myself lately. Luckily, I still have my online membership to My Yoga Works, so I have no excuse. And I figure if I tell the blog world, then I have to do it! 🙂

Live in the Moment

I am the WORST at this. I blame part of it as being a woman, as we are all innate planners but sometimes I wish my brain would just turn down a notch.  At times I worry too much about things I have no control over and that can take away from really enjoying the moment. My hubby is really good at this, and I’m trying to let that part of his personality rub off on me.  Hopefully yoga can help out with this as well.

Read More Books

This is likely going to go out the door once the holidays hit. Books have always been a great escape from reality and are a much better use of time than watching tv or playing on social media. I’d love to find a book club to join, as that will keep me on track. We’ll see!

I’ve heard a lot about this book recently and saw it at Target the other day and bought it, so I hope I like it! 🙂

Wednesday Inspiration

Hello Blog Friends~ I’ve been a little quiet lately- lots going on with life, work and little bits of traveling. But, I’ll be back more consistently soon. I’m attending the Sweat Pink Blog Fest Conference in August and can’t wait!

blogfest1

blogfestI’m really looking forward to it and I think it will motivate me to get back on track with the ‘ol blogging schedule.

Today, I wanted to share some daily inspiration with you that seemed to be speaking specifically to me this morning.

I subscribe to the free daily emails from Brave Girls Club. If you have never heard of it, check out the website. (I’m not receiving anything in return about mentioning this site, I just really like it and want to spread the word). Their website describes their organization as:

“Brave Girls Club is a worldwide community of women (of every age) who want to live the best, happiest, most productive and fabulously brave lives they can possibly live…and that means something different to every single one of us.”

Here’s today’s daily truth:

Dear Impatient Girl,

Sometimes we need to just let life surprise us a little instead of trying so hard to control every single outcome for every single thing…isn’t it exhausting?

Gorgeous soul….look back on all of the other times you’ve tried with all of your might to hold things together, put things together and keep things together so that everything would be perfectly in place for the exact things to happen that you were so determined to make happen. Remember how things happened completely differently than you ever could have dreamed….but that they worked out exactly the way they were supposed to? (even if it was painful or uncomfortable?)

Life has a way of surprising us whether we are ready for it or not…whether we worry our little heads off or whether we plan our fingers right down to the bone….life still surprises us.

So….let the worries go for a bit. Let yourself chill and be still. TRUST THE JOURNEY and trust yourself. No matter what happens, you will make it and you will make it into something beautiful and wonderful….just like you always have.

Surprises are fun.

I’ll back soon and thanks again as always for reading! 🙂

Do your thing!

Happy Wednesday lovely friends. This week has so far been comfortable and steady, not too stressful so I’m happy about that! 🙂

I hope I’m not going on over-kill with the quotes on here, but I just feel like I need to share this one today! quote

I love this one so much I even printed it out and have it hanging up next to my make up makeup mirror.

I have a really hard time (well I think women do, in general) comparing myself to what others are doing and sometimes feel like I need to be doing the exact same….whether it’s little superficial things like: having certain clothes or a hair style or bigger things like: owning a home or attending more schooling.

There are times when I think we all need to take a step back and just say “who cares?” I’m reminding myself that I’m here to live my life and to do what is right for me 🙂

Speaking of doing something for me, I took the plunge and signed up for my first ever Blog Conference this summer!

It’s also piggy-packing on a Fitness Conference, which I need CEU’s anyways, so it works out to be quite perfect!

The conference is held through Idea Fit and will be in Anaheim, California (45 min away from my home, sweet deal)

The first two days is full of blog sessions: tutorials, lectures, etc as well as workouts. I’m pretty excited to meet the ladies behind some of blogs that I read almost everyday. Should be informative and a good time I’m sure!

Any tips for first timers attending a blog conference?

To Start Off The Week….

It’s always nice to start a new week (or day) with some happy inspiration.  I wanted to share some of my favorite quotes that I like to refer to often, just to get my mind in a positive place.
