What Made Me Smile This Week

Happy November everyone!!

And no, I don’t believe it. I’m currently sitting in a t-shirt and shorts as it is 70+ degrees right now. Oh Texas, always keeps it interesting.

But guys, I am so excited for the holidays this year.  A lot of this has to do with the fact that Charlotte is able to participate and understand a little more about Christmas season. There are SO many kid friendly activities around our neighborhood and I’m making my list of to-dos already. 🙂

Halloween

The cutest Dorothy and Lion I have ever seen. {I know I’m a little biased, but they are pretty adorable!} This was the first time we went Trick or Treating door to door, and I wasn’t sure how it would go. They got the hang of it real quick once they realized they get candy after saying “trick or treeeaaaat.”

Starbucks Holiday Cups

I know, I know. It’s not Thanksgiving yet, but I can’t help but get sucked into all the seasonal fun!

Pop Pilates Park Classes

In addition to teaching at a corporate gym 2x a week, I also started teaching Pop classes at a park in town! Everyone that has taken so far, has loved the class, which makes me SO happy. Plus having some “me time” to start off the weekend is excellent.

New Book

Source

I know it takes me sooooo long to finish a book these days, but I’m stoked about this one.  My library has it, and having a deadline will hopefully keep me more accountable in my reading management. The last book I read was “The Couple Next Door”  by the same author, and I loved it.  I’m sure this one will be a page turner as well! Below is a quick summary taken off the Amazon site:

Karen and Tom Krupp are happy—they’ve got a lovely home in upstate New York, they’re practically newlyweds, and they have no kids to interrupt their comfortable life together. But one day, Tom returns home to find Karen has vanished—her car’s gone and it seems she left in a rush. She even left her purse—complete with phone and ID—behind.

There’s a knock on the door—the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted. She had a car accident, and lost control as she sped through the worst part of town.

The accident has left Karen with a concussion and a few scrapes.  Still, she’s mostly okay—except that she can’t remember what she was doing or where she was when she crashed. The cops think her memory loss is highly convenient, and they suspect she was up to no good.”

That’s all for now. Thank you for stopping by!

What is something that’s making you smile this week??

To Race or Not to Race?

Hello Hello!

It just hit me this morning that Halloween is next week. OMG! Our weather has been cooling down at night, but we still get up to the 80’s in the afternoons…so ya, I don’t believe that it is actually the middle/end of October!  We are gearing up for our first year Trick or Treating around our neighborhood. We even got our dog a costume, just so she wouldn’t feel left out. Haha!

So along with the weather cooling down, I’ve been able to get in more running lately.  And it has been feeling so good. I got back from a run last night and was telling my husband how much better I feel mentally and physically after getting in a run. There’s something about it that just clears my mind!

So I’m thinking I need to get back on the race train. Sometimes I need that extra motivator that will keep me honest with my training schedule and push myself. But then I don’t want to overcommit myself with something right now, because well, life is so busy. So that’s where I’m at. Maybe getting some pretty new running shoes will help make my decision? Haha! There is a half marathon coming up in February and I’m strongly considering it.

Ahhhh, look how pretty these are!! I found these beauties while perusing the Nordstrom site!

Now that I am upping my milage, I am beginning to crave sports drinks after those long runs. I go back in forth with sports drinks, since so many of them are typically so high in sugar and/or artificial sweeteners. So, it was really good timing that I was able to try out a new brand called LyteZone!   I was more intrigued after reading more about the product on their website and this from one of the founders below:

Being very active (surfing, basketball, hiking) and enjoying the occasional adult beverage, I always wanted to add electrolytes to Drinkwel. I constantly experimented with hydration and electrolytes. Think coconut water, ‘ade’ products, salt capsules, and even pickle juice! Nothing really fit as there wasn’t anything that would reasonably fit in our Drinkwel pills.
The more I dove into hydration and electrolytes, the more I realized the existing products on the market weren’t great (and often contained lots of negative fillers, sweeteners, and coloring). It’s still crazy to me how low quality the average sports drink is. If these products are for athletes, why are so many corners being cut?
After a lot of research and testing, we created LyteShow and a personal obsession with electrolytes and hydration was born.
At LyteLine, we’re all about BETTER hydration. We always use/drink/take the products we make ourselves. We’re not selling sugar water and our products do not taste like your typical sports drinks. They’re intense because our commitment to hydration is intense.”
Yours,
Mike, Co-Founder

I have tried my fair share of sports drinks and electrolyte replacements, especially in my marathon training days. Honestly, a lot of them tasted the same as their competitor product. So I was expecting this to taste like many of the other drinks out there. I wanted my husband to try one as well, just to hear his unbiased opinion. Well, we both drank one after running separately and basically said the same thing, “I like it, it tastes like carbonated water.” And I must say, I’m a big fan of them not being too sweet!  We have one left in our fridge, which is supposed to be for me after a long run this weekend. Ha, maybe that’s some extra motivation I need right there!

You can follow LyteLine on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

*I was given a complimentary box of LyteZone in exchange for an honest review of the product*

The Sometimes Blogger

Hi hi friends! It’s been a minute…again!

Honestly, I think about the blog a lot and have struggled with what direction I want to take it. Do I want to blog multiple times a week and try to grow it, do I want to blog occasionally, or do I want to stop and start something new?

Since becoming a SAHM, I’ve been able to pursue some side gigs that I really love….teaching Stroller Strides and Pop Pilates classes, working my Rodan+Fields business and blogging occasionally!  I am so thankful for these outlets and being able to pursue some activities that are just for me! I think the problem is when I do have free time, I don’t know what to do first! Do I workout (that usually wins), do stuff around the house, do I blog, do I work on my R+F stuff or do I just relax & unplug? Geesh that’s a lot of things pulling me in different directions!

{MMMM Coffee}

So what’s my conclusion with all of this? Right now, I’m happy being somewhere in the middle. My top priorities of course are my family & myself. I don’t want to blog just for the sake of getting a post up, but at the same time I don’t want to NOT blog because I don’t think I have 100% perfect content! Writing has always been therapeutic for me and helps me work out my feelings and emptions, so I am thankful for this space. I think besides planning my workouts and meals I need to plan my blogging time!

Thanks for stopping by my little space on the internet!

What I’m Loving Lately

Hey everyone! How was the weekend? Naturally ours flew by and sometimes I can’t really remember what we did exactly…..a 2 year old and a 1 year old keep things busy busy!

It’s been awhile since I’ve written one of these posts, so I thought I would change that!!

{note: no affiliate links, I just really like this stuff & wanted to share!}

Reality Life with Kate Casey

You guys know I am kind of a Podcast junkie and watch a decent amount of Reality TV so this is the perfect fit.  I actually don’t remember how I found this podcast in the first place but I’m so happy I did. She is HILARIOUS and discuses current shows and interviews past reality stars…think Melissa Rycroft from the Bachelor. Go download it now!

Chocolate Protein Powder

Yep more Tone it Up talk. I’ve been mixing this in my smoothies the past couple of weeks, so yummy! And they sell it at Target. Another reason to go to Target ladies!

Lululemon Shorts

The hubby spoiled me with a giftcard on Mother’s Day so I splurged on some new shorts. My stay at home mom & fitness instructor uniform is yoga pants but these will be perfect for summertime! They are so comfy and fit really well!

Coconut Milk Coffee Creamer

I’m trying to be more mindful of my dairy and sugar intake  & this is surprisingly yummy! Found it at Target……..of course!!

Splash Pads

Speaking of summertime….it’s already heating up here in Dallas! We took Charlotte & Donovan to our local splash pad over the weekend and they had a blast. I’m so glad there is one nearby as I have a feeling we will be here often!!

That’s all from me today, thanks for stopping by!

My Favorite Things About Texas

So it’s been about 2 1/2 years that we’ve been official Texas residents! Time really does fly, especially when you have young kids. Today, I thought it would be fun to highlight a few of my favorite things about living in the Lone Star State.

Now of course there are pros and cons to everywhere you live & I will always miss parts of Seattle (where I’m from origionally) and Los Angeles ( I mean how can you not?!) But we are very happy here and thankful to raise our kids in our community!

Alright, here we go!

Friendliness

Yes it is true. People are  friendlier in the South. It’s unlikely to walk past someone on the street without saying hello or having someone open doors for you. Simple little acts like this always put a smile on my face & put me in a good mood!

The Weather

Now I will preface this by saying the summertime is brutal. Like June-August is rough. However the other 9 months of the year are pretty great. Nothing will compare to LA, but wearing my sunglasses almost daily is a win in my book! I appreciate the fact that we can do an activity outside everyday: a walk, going to the park, splash pad or playing with chalk at our house!

Food For Days

Seattle & Los Angeles are pretty big “foodie” cities and Dallas also has it’s fair share! We have a running list of date-night places to try. And since Dallas is SO big, there are a lot of different neighborhoods to check out! Some of our favorites so far:

Victor Tangos

Sissy’s Southern Kitchen

Gloria’s {the BEST queso)

Ida Claire

Now that Dallas is feeling more like home, I was so excited when Modern Map Art contacted me about their city maps! I just love the look of the poster and think it will be a perfect addition in our living room!

C was thought the poster was pretty cool too!

The site has 500 cities listed (amazing) so you are bound to find yours! The sizes range from 8×10 all the up to 24×36 landscape, that’s what we have! A little background info on how the maps are made:

“We use OpenStreetMaps to create the map grid, and then use some styling to color in the streets, land, and water.  Once we pick a city, we try to put the downtown in the center, but are flexible depending on how the map grid/shoreline looks.  Then, we use the map and put it on a poster in photoshop, where we add the city name.  It’s a lot of fun staring at cities from all over the world!”

These are such unique gifts & are perfect for home or even an office. I especially like the black and white classic look as they can really go anywhere!

Have a great rest of your weekend everyone & thanks for stopping by! ~M

A New Chapter…..

Hey Hey everyone!

Today I’m so excited to share what I’ve been up to behind the scenses the past few months! I wanted to wait until it was official and I had a job (haha not to jinx anything.) I’ll be officially starting mid- May as a Pop Pilates instructor. Hooray!

I snuck down to Austin in February for training and worked my butt off to get my evaluation video in a few weeks later. And ever sense I’ve been learning choreo and reaching out to gyms and studios!

(My day of training evaluation card)

So let’s back up a bit on how I landed here….

I have followed Cassey Ho for years on her Blogilates site. Her youtube videos are great and something I could always quickly do if I wanted a home workout.  I heard about the Pop Pilates certification a couple years back and thought “that’s fun, but I don’t have time to do all of that.” This Fall, I was wanting to add a little something more to my schedule, but at the same time find something flexible that worked well with our family.  I was randomly scrolling through Instagram one night and saw a post about Pop. I delved in a little further reading about the certification process, AND as luck would have it, there was a training in Austin a few months away. Talked with my hubby about it, signed up and the rest is history! 🙂

Why do I love Pop?

  • It’s an equipment-free workout. All you need is a yoga mat!
  • We have different sections for each body part = lots of changes during class so nothing is boring!
  • The moves are unique & many are ones I’ve never seen before
  • You get the combination of toning exercises as well as cardio. All in one workout!

{Train Like A Beast, Look Like A Beauty}

I have a couple more weeks before I start my first class, eek! I’ll be sure to share updates!

For you Fitness Instructors out there: any tips when teaching a new format?

Postpartum Body Thoughts

So did I really miss blogging the entire month of March?? Yep I did. Besides the kiddos keeping me very occupied, I have been busy finishing up my Pop Pilates certification and finding an instructing job- eek! I will share all the deets soon in a separate post, now that it’s official, and I will have my very own class starting in May!

Wiritng a post about my postpartum body has been on my mind for awhile. Being a fitness instructor and enthusiast, I feel like I should share my voice on this topic. In all honesty, it wasn’t until Donovan turned 10 months that I began to feel more like myself. I gained about 30 pounds during my pregnancy (that boy liked to eat and still does). The first 20 came off easily but the last 10 hung around for awhile. There were times I was frustrated as I’ve always been “in shape.”  Breastfeeding, not sleeping much, and taking care of 2 kids took a lot of time away from normal exercise routine.

It’s ridiculous how much pressure we put on ourselves to “get your body back” asap. I was basically pregnant for 2 years straight and SO anxious to get back to my pre-pregnancy self. Looking back, I tried to do too much too soon and didn’t just relax and just give myself time. I know it’s so much easier to say that versus actually live it! Instead of just taking a nap, sometimes I’d push myself to workout. Now I’m at a place that I want to work out because it feels good, not because I feel like I have to.

Right now I am working out about 4-5 times a week. I try to run 2x a week and do one HIIT routine (Tone it Up and Sarah Fit) and one Pop Pilates routine. The variety has been the best for my body. My diet has been a factor in losing the baby weigh as well, I try to eat pretty healthy during the week and then allow myself 2 cheat meals on the weekends. (I mean, I love queso and margaritas and won’t be giving those up anytime soon!) I’m no longer breastfeeding and feel like that was when the shift started to happen. Some people lose weight when they are breastfeeding but that wasn’t me. I was ALWAYS hungry and ate like I was training for a marathon at times. Again, Donovan likes to eat!

“What? Who Me?

(This was taken at Miss Charlott’es 2nd birthday early March).

To all you Mamas out there, you are doing a great job no matter where you are on your post baby bod y journey!  Thanks for stopping by! I hope to be back again soon!

XO, M
