On To….. 2016

I am happy to finally say that it is officially 2016!

2015 was such a mixed & ridiculous year for us that I have been so anxious to just get through this year. With moving to a new state, buying a new house, quitting my job, having a baby, losing a baby, and finding out I’m pregnant again…well, it’s also been exhausting mentally and physically. But I feel ready for what 2016 has in store for us.

I also love the New Year as it always feels like a fresh start, no matter what. I have already re-organized my closet and brought out my new day planner, so I’m ready to go. Ha!

I wouldn’t say that I have any New Years “resolutions or goals” but 2016 Plans.

And most of my “plans” aren’t a big change from what I already strive for and have going on, but here is a quick list!

Prioritize My Alone Time

I am realizing the more active Charlotte gets, that this is becoming a struggle. But when I do get some alone time, it’s amazing how quickly I can feel rejuvenated. Going to a coffee shop, taking a Pure Barre class, blogging, reading a book, or even going to the grocery store alone is just glorious. (never thought I’d say that!)  Below is my current read, that I am whipping through already!

Explore New Ideas for Charlie

Thankfully, I have found a great network of moms and playgroups through my city and through stroller strides. My plan for this year is to do one activity with Charlotte everyday, whether it’s Gymboree, going to stroller strides class, or going to the library….I want to continue making it a “plan” to get out of the house once a day. And I’m excited that she is getting older and we can begin to do more activities!

Go on a Monthly Date Night

As much as we love our little Charlie bug, it is refreshing to go out to dinner without the diaper bag in tow! We have a date night planned for dinner this Saturday for my birthday, yay! It’s also a nice change for me to get out of the yoga pants! 😉

Continue to Make Fitness a Priority

This goes along with my alone time, but if I can’t exercise I am a huge grump. My body and mind needs that stress release! I know it will be more of a juggling act come May with the little guy, but this is something that I have to fit into my life! And I still plan on teaching Stroller Strides and Fit4Baby classes…it’ll just be more of a juggling act with 2! 🙂

Do you have any 2016 Goals, Plans or Intentions- I’d love to hear yours, please share in the comments!

3 Ways to Boost Your Mood

With the busy Holiday season upon us, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and stressed out with Christmas shopping, holiday parties, family gatherings, decorating etc.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find some time alone to relax and regroup. And if you are anything like me, then you NEED some alone time! If that isn’t readily possible, try some of these tips below to de-stress and boost your mood!

Buy Some Fresh Flowers
I don’t know what it is about the bright fresh colors but anytime my husband or I bring them home, I can’t help but feel a little happier. {Anything that is the color pink helps too!}

Light A Candle

A good smelling candle or diffuser has always been calming to me. My favorite of late is the volcano Capri Blue candle (or diffuser). I can’t get enough of that smell. They are all over my local pure barre studio, so I have become obsessed. I bought a diffuser for Charlotte’s room and we have a candle out in our living room.

Listen to Music
I listen to a lot of Pandora stations throughout the day and my current go-to’s are James Morrison and Vance Joy for relaxing music.  I usually have some music playing when I’m getting ready in the morning.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!

What are your go-to way’s to de-stress during the Holidays or in general?

Happy Wednesday All!

Today is a very exciting day……

My Pure Barre studio is hosting a “bring on the men” class tonight AND my hubby is actually joining me! HA! (side note: the man has never done yoga or pilates, so this will be completely new for him!)

It only took 2 years of me bugging him about it.  Another couple (and one of hubby’s best friends) is attending class too, so I think that helped to convince him. 🙂 For one, I always enjoy working out with husband and two, I want him to have a better appreciation of barre classes and maybe he’ll gain an insight into my slight obsession with them. I’ll be sure to share about the experience!

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared what I’ve been loving on Pinterest. This is still my favorite ‘social media’ site and I constantly get lost on it for hours…..ooops.

The Body Image Movement

As a Sweat Pink Ambassador, I have the opportunity to attend health/fitness events from time to time. Last week I was invited to hear Taryn Brumfitt speak about the Body Image Movement.  Here’s a quick summary of what this movement is all about, per her website.

“Body Image Movement’s job is to harness and facilitate positive body image activism by encouraging women to be more accepting of who they are, to use positive language regarding their bodies and others, and to prioritize health before beauty. Our goal is to reach as many women as possible around the world and speak to them about how we can learn to fully embrace and love our bodies.”

The event was held at a Lorna Jane store in Malibu. (doesn’t get much better than that). I don’t make the trek up to Malibu often, so it was fun to check out a new area and the drive along the coastline is beautiful. (no pics because I was driving!!) 😉

Tarynn was born to be a public speaker-she’s energetic, honest and entertaining. If you ever get the chance to listen to her speak, do it!  She spoke about how her body image has changed throughout her life and how the body movement was started.

The biggest take away from her seminar was to focus on how you feel vs. how you look. Something so simple is often overlooked. Hearing her speak, made me want to do more to appreciate myself and more to encourage other women to praise themselves and each other.

I can honestly say I have an overall positive outlook on my body. I’ve worked hard over the years to exercise regularly and take care of myself. With that said, I let myself indulge on pizza, ice cream or cheeseburgers once in awhile. I love food, and would be such a grump if I didn’t treat myself from time to time. I never weigh myself and know how much I weigh when I go to the doctor. I’ll know I need a change if my pants aren’t fitting, but I don’t think it’s healthy to be chasing a number on the scale.

Of course there are days where I think “I wish my arms were more toned or I wish my legs looked like Carrie Underwood’s (don’t we all). But, I try to consistently remind myself of what my body has accomplished and to be proud of that.

And healthy doesn’t always mean being a size 2. I’ve played soccer with girls that are very thin and super strong and girls that are a little bigger than “the average” but in shape and very strong. Everyone’s body is different and that’s okay- that’s what makes us unique and special. I know that I will never been model thin and skinny jeans aren’t a good look for me. But in the grand scheme of things, who cares? The media is notorious at exposing the ideal look and body type.

After the event, I shopped around Lorna Jane and found these cute little running shorts. I’m obsessed with pink and these were the last ones in my size, meant to be! Sorry for the pic quality, I think it’s time for an Iphone update! 😉

Wednesday Inspiration

Hello Blog Friends~ I’ve been a little quiet lately- lots going on with life, work and little bits of traveling. But, I’ll be back more consistently soon. I’m attending the Sweat Pink Blog Fest Conference in August and can’t wait!

blogfestI’m really looking forward to it and I think it will motivate me to get back on track with the ‘ol blogging schedule.

Today, I wanted to share some daily inspiration with you that seemed to be speaking specifically to me this morning.

I subscribe to the free daily emails from Brave Girls Club. If you have never heard of it, check out the website. (I’m not receiving anything in return about mentioning this site, I just really like it and want to spread the word). Their website describes their organization as:

“Brave Girls Club is a worldwide community of women (of every age) who want to live the best, happiest, most productive and fabulously brave lives they can possibly live…and that means something different to every single one of us.”

Here’s today’s daily truth:

Dear Impatient Girl,

Sometimes we need to just let life surprise us a little instead of trying so hard to control every single outcome for every single thing…isn’t it exhausting?

Gorgeous soul….look back on all of the other times you’ve tried with all of your might to hold things together, put things together and keep things together so that everything would be perfectly in place for the exact things to happen that you were so determined to make happen. Remember how things happened completely differently than you ever could have dreamed….but that they worked out exactly the way they were supposed to? (even if it was painful or uncomfortable?)

Life has a way of surprising us whether we are ready for it or not…whether we worry our little heads off or whether we plan our fingers right down to the bone….life still surprises us.

So….let the worries go for a bit. Let yourself chill and be still. TRUST THE JOURNEY and trust yourself. No matter what happens, you will make it and you will make it into something beautiful and wonderful….just like you always have.

Surprises are fun.

I’ll back soon and thanks again as always for reading! 🙂

Choosing Happy

Hello All!

Man this week sure has gotten away from me. I was planning on being a little more active on the blog this week, but that obviously didn’t happen. But, head over to the Girls Gone Sporty Website and check out my newest travel workout. Perfect timing for the beginning of summer! 🙂

I can honestly say that choosing to be happy is a struggle at times. And I know there is no way that we can always be happy. We all have face setbacks, hardships, and things don’t always turn out as we planned, which can be frustrating. I wanted to share some personal insight I’ve reflected on recently.

Complaining about the negatives and feeling sorry for ourselves doesn’t change anything. I’m a huge advocate of looking for a positive, but needs a reminder at times. I’m a constant planner and worrier which keeps me from living in and enjoying the moment.

So, the next time I feel like complaining or worrying about something I’m going to remind myself to “choose happy” instead. And I hope you will try it too!

And with that, I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

How do you choose to be happy? Please share in the comments below! And as always, thanks for reading. ~M

Pretty Things

As much as I am a fitness enthusiast, I am also a complete girly girl and love all things pretty (hence the name of my blog).

Today I wanted to share a few items and images that I’ve been crushing on lately.

Kate Spade can do no wrong in my opinion. I love her jewelry, purses, clothes, and shoes.

Tees with French or Italian sayings seem everywhere now. I actually own this shirt- it’s comfy and I like that I can dress it up or down.

I’m loving floral dresses for springtime, this one is so adorable and those pink shoes are too die for!

I’m trying to fancy up our current wall art situation. Etsy always has lots to choose from!

This picture reminds me of summer and inspires me to ride my bike when I can.

Another floral number for spring. Love!

I know we aren’t going to be living in LA forever, so I’m trying to take advantage of being near the ocean and to enjoy it.

Bright colors make me happy!

If only my bed looked like this every morning. I’ve had breakfast in bed once in my life while I was on vacation.

Thanks for stopping by! ~M
