What is Audio Fitness?

Thank you to Aaptiv for sharing a free 2- week trial with me in exchange for my  honest review.

Fitness Apps, YouTube, & Online workouts, are the norm these days.  And for good reason, they are convenient- you don’t need to find a class time that works with your schedule, so you can do them whenever you want!

Since I am a fitness instructor, of course I think there is something said for going to a live class. However, having another option is key as getting tothe gym 5x a week is unrealistic for many. If you have been reading my blog for awhile you know I’m a huge fan of home workouts. Lately I’ve been into Cassy Ho’s workouts (I mean obviously – she’s the creater of Pop Pilates), Katie’s Love Sweat Fitness & Tone it Up. (LOVING the live workouts they have been doing lately, so much fun).

I’m obviously very passionate about postpartum fitness for others as well as my own fitness journey, so I was intrigued when Aaptiv reached out to me to try their Stroller Workouts!

So what is Aaptiv?

“We founded Aaptiv with the goal of bringing an elevated workout experience to a global community. We use technology to make that experience accessible anytime, anywhere – whether you’re working out at your local gym in LA or running outside while traveling in London.”

There is a workout for anyone- HIIT routines, running workouts (even marathon training plans), yoga, stretching, and even elliptical workouts. I really love the variety, but I was only able to check out the Stroller Workouts the past two weeks (2nd and 3rd trimester Maternity workouts are also coming soon).

First of all, the playlists are AWESOME. Music is so key to my motivation & they really have that part figured out.  I do think there is a little learning curve adjusting to the audio fitness aspect. If you are a visual learner you may feel a little lost initially, but that’s not to say the instructors are lacking at all. Their cues are specific and motivational.

The workouts were easy to follow and tough, especially the Stroller Plyo workout (hello legs). I think the time frame was perfect- no longer than 20 minutes. Now that Charlotte is 2, she doesn’t like to sit still in the stroller too long unless there are bubbles/songs etc. to keep her entertained. I am really curious to try out some of the running workouts as well, since I’m just getting back into being a runner again. 🙂

Cordskinz Review

Disclaimer: I received complimentary products in exchange for a blog review. The review is my own opinion.

If you are like me, getting my headphones all bunched up during my workouts is probably the most annoying thing ever! I’ve tried a variety of headphone brands, yet it still happens! Argh…the struggle.

I was recently contacted by the lovely people at Cordskinz to try out their newly launched product to resolve the tangled earbud issue. I figured “sure, why not?”

The skinz are basically little sleeves that fit over your headphone cords to keep them from getting tangled up. Genius!

And as luck would have it, I received some Pink Skinz!

I was a little confused at what the heck I was supposed to do with them when I first opened the package, but their home page shows a quick youtube video on how to esemble them.

Now of course I’m not running right now, so I will have to test these babies out a little more once I’m able to ramp up the exercise intensity. But I’ve used them on my walks with miss Paisley and was surprisingly pleased, no tangled mess!

My only gripe is that you have to cut the cords and fit them to the current pair that you own and have to make sure to cut around your volume buttons…….that was a little tedious but not a huge deal…I am just lazy. 😉

Cost? Only $9.99….no too bad!

Also, check out their social media channels if interested:  Twitter and Facebook

My YogaWorks Classes

This was one of the first weekends this month that we have been in town so it was nice to take it easy and not do much. We did make the trek up to Malibu and it was a perfect day of sitting outside and sipping some wine.

I also spent lots of time lounging around with this girl.

I realized I haven’t updated lately on the half marathon training. Well, it’s definitely creeping up on us and is just over a month out…yikes! Today we ran 7 miles and will ramp up to 10 in the next 2 weeks. Today was a slow run for me, but I’m just happy to get the miles in and try not to worry about my pace so much. I’m shooting for running under a 10 min. mile so finishing under 2 hours 10 minutes would be great!

Disclosure: I received a free six-month trial of MyYogaWorks in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I recently had the opportunity to try out MyYogaWorks online yoga classes. It’s funny, I was thinking a few weeks ago that I need to get back on the yoga-train and received an email asking if I wanted to try out the online site! Must have been meant to be!

There are many times during the week that I don’t feel like driving to a yoga studio and dealing with parking, getting there earlier to get a spot, and doing a class that isn’t tailored to what I specifically want to do. Nothing beats the convenience of online classes, I can just pull up my ipad and get going.

The classes are broken up into beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I like this model because as I go on, I know I can switch things up and progress. I’m not extremely experienced with yoga so I have only done some beginner classes. They range from 5 min – 90 min which is super easy to squeeze into a busy day.

They also make it super-easy in the search function to choose the time you want, the purpose you want to focus on and the body parts you want to target.  There are 20 different categories so there is something for everyone. So far I have taken classes focusing on energizing, stress reduction, stretch, and calming. The instructors are very specific and the pace of each class was just right for me- not too fast, not too slow. They also show modifications for all the poses, which is especially helpful for me 🙂

I really like that there are different instructors throughout the site.  Some workout videos can get boring after listening to the same instructor and the same cueing over and over again.

The site also has a “Journey Series” that are a sequence of videos with a specific focus like yoga for runners (I need to try this one for sure), nap time yoga for moms, surfing and roadtrip yoga. Love it all!

The price is extremely reasonable, $15/month after a 14 day free trial. And you lucky blog readers can use this code: bloggermonth and receive a free one month trail! You can get started here.

I’m pretty happy I have this subscription for 6 months so that I can try out everything this site has to offer….seriously it seems to have something for everyone!

The only complaint I have is that there isn’t any music playing in the background and I’m a music dependent exerciser. So I turned on my Pandora radio as I went through the workouts and that easily solved the problem.

Have you tried online yoga classes? What do you think?

Thanks for reading as always!

Vega Sport

Hello Blogger People!

I hope everyone is having a great start to the week. It’s going to be a hot one today in LA, I think it’s already up to 85 degrees and it’s not even 9am. Wish I could be at the beach and not at work!

As a Sweat Pink ambassador for Fit Approach ,I have the opportunity to participate in product reviews. I always choose products to review that I’m curious about and think my readers might be interested in as well. So, I jumped at the chance to try out a Vega Sport product.

I’m a big snacker and during the week I am constantly on the run, so I like having something easy to grab that satisfies me until I can eat a real meal.

Their products offer plant-based, gluten-free, non-GMO, and nothing artificial. Read more about their guiding principles.

I was given a box of chocolate coconut almond energy bars. The bars contain 27g carbs from whole food ingredients, high and low glycemic carbohydrates for immediate and sustained energy, as well as 1g Omega 3

Honestly, I can be turned off when hearing that the ingredients are all natural, gluten free etc….that usually means they don’t have much flavor.  But , these were pretty yummy and perfect to throw in my purse when I knew I’d be out and about.

They have more products available such as pre-workout drinks, recovery drinks, performance protein, and endurance gel. 2353-FuelYourBetter-800x800-v5

MASH Up Conditioning Review

Jamie from MASH UP Conditioning contacted me recently to try out their Tempo Workout DVD.  If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, then you already know how much I love finding new home workouts. So needless to say, I was anxious to try this one out.

And after doing it, I’m so pumped that I have this DVD at home!

MASH stands for Mind/Body, Agility & Strength and High Intensity Intervals.

The Mash Up Philosophy:

“Benefit from the incredible effectiveness of these scientifically based low-volume high intensity workouts. The goal is to achieve and maintain an optimal level of health that fits into any type of schedule. The most effective approach is to maintain good nutrition at least 80% of the time in addition to an efficient exercise program. Interval Training at It’s Finest!”

Why I’m digging this Workout:

  • There are 7 different workouts in this one DVD. The workouts are similar formats, but the routines are definitely mixed up so it’s not boring! They also do a great job of transitioning the exercises throughout the DVD.
  • Each routine is 15 minutes! So nice if you don’t have a lot of time and want to get a good sweat.  (and yes I was sweating after about 5 minutes). Also, if you want to workout longer than 15 minutes, then just do another routine or 2!
  • It’s for all skill levels- I really like that they show a modified and an advanced version of each exercise. So you can always build up your workout with this DVD.

They also have an Endurance DVD and will be coming out soon with a Sprint DVD. All sound fun to me!

Vitacost Protein

I was recently contacted by Vitacost and asked if I wanted to do a review of their protein products. I’m typically not a huge protein powder person, but I was open to give it a try.

These are the goodies that I received all from the ARO series.

I was surprised after checking out the website how many products were available….not only protein powders, but thousands of healthy products ranging from vitamins, beauty, food, home and pet products. They also carry products made from other brands, SO it’s a great resource AND you get free shipping with a $50+ order.

My 2 favorites from this bunch is the Pre-workout concentrate in Pink Lemonade AND the Casien Chocolate.

The chocolate one is great mixed with a banana & strawberries OR on it’s own with ice….tastes just like a milkshake. My hubby was also impressed with the products and happy I had so many to share with him 🙂

Curious? Try the Casein protein powder yourself…..only $24. Or the pre workout concentrate…only $20.

I received complimentary products in exchange for a blog review. Thie review is my own opinion. For more information about Vitacost check out their site here and for more information just about Vitacost’s ARO Black Series check it out here

Powered By Bits

I hope everyone has had a great long weekend so far!  Thanksgiving day was pretty perfect- worked out, ate A LOT of food, watched football, and fell asleep at 10pm, ha!  We have plenty of leftovers for the next few days, which sometimes I love more than the actual meal. 🙂 Oh, and we still have a whole un-eaten pumpkin pie…..yum….I see some more burpees in my future 🙂

I didn’t do any Black Friday shopping because I actually had to work! Boo.  Luckily, it was only until 4pm, instead of 6pm.  It wasn’t too bad once I was there, but was hard to focus knowing my hubby was at home watching football on the couch.  All the patients that came in were super chill and relaxed, which made it fun. (as fun as it can be 🙂 ).

I’m very excited to share my first product review today!

It’s also even more exciting because I adore the product. I present to you: ENERGY BITS!

I heard about “Energy Bits” through Twitter and read some good reiews about them from other bloggers.  At first, I was turned off because I’m starting to get sick of the whole “energy craze”- 5 hour energies, rockstars, bleh.  I assumed it was the same as all these other products out right now.  I’m not a fan of most energy drinks or chews because they usually just taste gross or like sugar.   I read that these little bits were actually algae and that grabbed my attention.

They are 100% organically grown, pure, and contain no sugar, caffeine, and additives. Score! They are  pure spirulina algae that has 64% of protein, which is amazing.  Spirulina actually has the highest concentration of protien in the world! (3x as much as steak) They are also not a supplement  but actually food- 1 calorie per bit.  They claim to naturally boost your energy without the “sugar crash.” Hmm, okay still listening…..

There are 4 types of bits depending on what effect you are going for: Recovery Bits, Energy Bits, Vitatilty Bits, and Skinny Bits.  The energy bits are right up my alley as they focus on boosting mental and physical energy, as well as endurance.  I tried them before a run this morning and was pleasently surprised at how great I felt….my 30 minute run turned into a 40 minute run.  It’s been a couple hours after I took them and I’m still feeling pretty good.  I typically reword myself with a starbucks drink after my weekend runs, but I really don’t feel like I need that extra caffiene boost.  (I’ll report back next week how I feel the rest of the day)

My only gripe is that you are suggested to swallow 30 bits per serving.  I’m a weenie when it comes to swallowing pills, so that’s just me complaining.  But they are actually very tiny and easy to swallow.  I’ll get used to it…… 🙂 It’s suggested to either swallow or chew the bits.  I would suggest to swallow them, if you are adventurous go chewing them, but that’s not me.

Please read their website for more information and links to research.

(*I was not compensated to write this review and all opinions are my own)

I’m curious to hear if you have tried these energy bits and what you all think about them- please share!  Off to watch some college football with the hubby (I think I say this every saturday, lol).

Have you been powered by bits?

What do you turn to for a boost of energy?
