It’s Feeling Like Fall

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

       The weather is finally cooling down here in Dallas that I can say “It’s Fall.” And by that I mean, its been in the 60’s in the mornings, and we need to wear jackets. I made a Pumpkin Chili Recipe a couple weeks ago, even though it was still 90 degrees. It was good, but I think I’ll enjoy it even more so when I’m cozied up with a warm sweater. Ahhhh, that sounds so lovely!

        Now that the kiddos are getting a little order, it’s been so fun to start some family traditions and see them get excited about doing all these new activities. This is the first year we are going to attempt trick or treating in our neighborhood, it may not last longer than 20 minutes but I’m still looking forward to it!

         Maybe soon I will actually get a sibling picture of them BOTH looking at the camera??

We’ve been enjoying more afternoon park days as well, which is so good for all of us mentally and physically to get out after naptimes. The swing and slides have been big hits lately!

           Friday night dinners out have also been a new thing as of late….which is largely due to the fact that once Friday hits,  I don’t want to cook anymore! Thankfully we live in a very family friendly town as the meals don’t last longer than an hour and usually involve one or two fussy children at some point.          Sweet little Charlie is also going through a “I love Mommy” and a “I want to test all my boundaries with Mommy” phase. Literally yesterday morning she picked up her box of hair bows looked at me and threw it on the ground. Then 30 minutes later was crying for me at preschool drop off. These little toddlers sure have a lot of emotions and opinions. So we are working on how to successfully cope with this stage. It is tough!

A friend of mine recommended this book below. Of course I’m only on like page 10, but it seems like it will have some good information!

On the workout front, I’m still doing a combination of running, Pop Pilates, and Tone it Up routines. At home workouts are my jam and what work with our family schedule.

Since the weather is cooling down, I want to up my running mileage and potentially look into a 10K in the next few months. I miss having something to train for, and signing up for a race always holds me accountable to push for that extra mile.

Updated Family Photos

I’ve always loved taking pictures, hanging up pictures, and looking at pictures. And even more so now that we have Charlotte and Donovan!

One of my good friends down here is also an AMAZING photographer and we just had some done a few weeks ago. I can’t wait to print them and update the pictures around our house!!

A Kid Update

 I’m in the process of planning Charlotte’s 2nd birthday and Donovan’s 1st…..so I thought it would be a good time to share what they are up to these days!!

Loves: Mr. Man loves pulling up to stand, cruising around on furniture and following around his sister. Oh and of course he still loves being held by Momma.

Food: We are just starting finger foods and he loves EVERYTHING.  So far we have tried bananas, sweet potatoes, rice, avocados, and pasta. I hope that his good eating will rub off on his picky sister!

Sleep: We still have our nights here and there, but generally D will sleep from 7 until 6! I’ll l take it!

Loves: This busy bee is hard to keep up with! Her favorite activities are running, jumping, and going down the slide at the park! She loves Elmo and sleeps with her doll for naps and at night. We are looking to sign her up for a little 2 year old gymnastics class very soon. I am pretty positive she will love it.

Foods: Her favorites right now are: strawberries, goldfish crackers, apples, yogurt, graham crackers, avocado toast and chicken nuggets. This girl is such a STUBBORN eater! I cannot wait until D is eating more food, I really think that will motivate her to add a little variety to her diet!

Sleep: This girl loves to sleep, I am so thankful! She is still taking one nap in the middle of the day {typically about 2 hours} and will sleep a good 12 hours through the night. Woo hoo.

It is SO cute to see them interacting more and more. Donovan loves to be around his sister, and Charlotte is starting to warm up to him. Although, she is not a fan of him touching her toys, but she’ll get used to it, right? 🙂

Staying Sane as a SAHM

I can’t believe it’s been almost two years since I officially earned the title “Stay at Home Mom.” It’s funny, staying home wasn’t a hard decision to make…..I was at a job that I liked, but didn’t love, and with our relocation to Dallas it all just fell into place.

Is it harder than I thought it would be? Oh yeah. Are there days when the only time I get to myself is when I take a shower? Absolutely! But when it’s all said and done I wouldn’t change a thing.

Now I am definitely no expert on the subject but this is what’s worked for me. And I’m sure I will continue to learn more as I go!

Get Out of the House

I repeat. Get out of the house. As hard as it is, it needs to happen. Having a reason to get everyone ready (including yourself) is a big deal. And having somewhat of a daily routine makes me feel normal.

Make Mom Friends

I know this doesn’t happen overnight. But seriously, I don’t know where I’d be without my group of girls. It can be so isolating without someone who genuinely understands the excitement of drinking coffee when it’s actually warm or being able to blow dry your hair in the morning. Wherever you are: look up Mom’s Club, Playgroups, Join Gymboree, or look for Stroller Strides classes. Of course it can be uncomfortable to put yourself out there, but just do it!

Make Time for your Hobbies

This is much easier said than done. There were/are plenty of times where I’d just rather stay and get stuff done around the house because lets be honest- there is always something that needs to be done.

But it can wait. Go workout, read a book in a coffee shop, go shopping- whatever it is that makes you feel like you.

Embarce the Hard Days

It’s not always happy kids and perfect instagram pictures. Some days you won’t get any housework done, the laundry will pile-up, the kids will be grumpy, you will be exhausted and you won’t have a clue what everyone is having for dinner. Those days are tough, yes, but they won’t happen EVERYDAY. Wine and sweatpants really help.

Planning Meals with a Family

I know you Mommas out there understand when I say Meal Prepping for your family is SO tough {especially when your kids are young}.  Feeding a picky toddler is an event in itself and I could save the details on that for an entire blogpost. Throw in a newborn and a husband, I don’t have a lot of time to plan or prepare healthy meals.

Going to the grocery store is a process with both of the kiddos, so I always try to go once my husband is home from work or on the weekend.  I typically plan my meals out a week in advance but there are times where I just don’t feel like it- I’m in a cooking funk or am simply lacking creativity!

Most of us by now, have heard about companies that mail fresh ingredients and instructions directly to your door. Those are great- the food is fresh and they always seem to give me some new ideas. However, there is still a lot of prep work involved, which again, is hard finding the time for these days!

We received 12 small meals that I shared between me and the hubby…and some for Charlotte. At first, I was thinking that these won’t taste that great but I will give it a try.  In my experience most premade meals aren’t that great.

The first meal I ate was the Red Chicken Enchiladas and I have to say, I was super impressed! And the fact that the meals weren’t packed with a ton of gross ingredients that I couldn’t pronounce.

 I wanted hubby to try some meals too without any prompting, just to see what he would say! He was pleasantly surprised as well and shocked when he read the nutrition information! His fav was the Paleo Carne Asada Bowl (this man loves his meat). Sadly, he ate that one all up before I could snap a picture or try it out myself!

What I also loved besides the taste & convenience factor, was not having to do dishes and the portions were just right for us.

I don’t think it is something I’d do ALL the time, however, it would be great to add this in on weeks when the husband is traveling, after getting back from a trip, or even when I’m just in a cooking funk!

Is it October already??

So I just realized that next week our little Donovan will be 5 months! 5 months, that’s basically half of a year. Whew the time really is flying by!

Now I feel like I might be jinxing it by putting this in writing, but our little man has been sleeping better at night! I still nurse him around 3 or 4am but besides that woke up he is doing much much better. I still try to get into bed around 9:30 so that I get a decent stretch of uninterrupted slept until feeding time. So we are getting there….there was a time that I did not think that was ever going to happen. Phew

Well I can’t say there is anything new going on with us, haha the same crazy days but we are gradually getting into somewhat of a routine. Our outings are still limited to the morning times bc of Donovan’s naps, but between our moms club & stroller strides playgroups we always have something on the agenda!

Besides the kiddos…what’s going on with me??

I’m finally trying to get back into a regular running routine, with the temps going down it is much more manageable. I got up to 4 miles last weekend, which was tough but felt great knowing I could do it.  I know it takes time to get back to your pre-baby body but it sure is frustrating when you don’t exactly feel like yourself.  I’ve been eyeing these running shoes for awhile…..some new workout gear always motivates me to get my butt moving!

Also for the month of October, I’m trying to take part in the 31 Day Challenge from Tone it Up. I printed out the calendar and left it out in plain site so I’m reminded of it even on the days where I feel like doing nothing! So hoping I notice somewhat of a difference by the end of the month!!

I’m also so excited….I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of Emily Ley’s book: Grace not Perfection. I’ve been following Emily on Instagram for a couple years and was excited to hear that she wrote a book. I think it’s going to be a good one, and I should get my copy tomorrow- woo! Now if only I had some time to read….hmm, I’ll work on it! 🙂

Hello Hello! Can you believe August is next week? It’s been so hot here lately so I’m looking forward to September when the temps start cooling down.

So What’s New?

Miss Charlie finished swim lessons this week! So fun and she enjoyed every minute of it! Now I know what to do with her when we take her in the pool and some things to work on as well! She loves the water and had no problem getting in and splashing around. So fun!

Mr D is officially a big boy….we took him in for his 2 month well check last week and he weighs 13 pound 9 oz!! He weighed 8lbs when he was born so that’s quite the weight gain in 2 months! At least I know his middle of the night nursing sessions are productive! 🙂

How’s Sleep?

We are gradually getting better, but we still have some rough nights here and there. Typically he will do one long stretch of about 5-6 hours, eat, then do a 3 or 3 1/2 hour stretch. So it’s not terrible, but I really long for the days that I don’t have such broken up sleep!  Soon I hope!!
