15 Minute Barre Booty Workout

Happy Friday Everyone!

I can’t believe it is basically February and Superbowl week already…yikes! We’ll be watching the game with a big group of friends, which means there will be a lot of food. Woo hoo! Good timing to be pregnant during the superbowl, ha!

I know workout time will be limited this weekend so I wanted to share a quick butt workout you can easily do at home. Below are links / instructions about form for the exercises.

Donkey Kicks

Plie Bridge (Turn toes out for Plie Position, this will help activate the booty)

Plie Bridge Knee Out Pulses (Hold bridge up and begin pulsing your knees away from your body a few inches…you will immediately feel this in the side of your hips)

Side lying Hip Raises

Pulsing Side-lying Hip Raise (Hold leg up and begin to pulse 1 inch up and down, make sure that if you are feeling this in your side and not your hip then you are raising your leg up too high)

Arabesque Lifts

Knee Out Pulses in Plie Squat  (scroll down to Bonus Burn section)

Fire Hydrants

A Spring Dream

Is it pathetic that I’m already getting really excited for Spring? I mean, I did say that I missed living somewhere that had seasons, but now that I have experienced winter for a couple months I am over it! Yep, LA officially spoiled me.

Ahh, I miss the beach! Waa.

But honestly, I can’t complain TOO much as we have had a couple 70 degrees days here in Dallas, so it’s not THAT bad. (This is what I keep trying to tell myself).

It also doesn’t help that stores are already advertising their spring lines…swim suits, pastels and shot dresses, what?!

Here are some things I’m crushing on for Spring!

Bright Tops

Yellow just screams Spring to me and I am all about comfort these days and this shirt fits the bill.

Swim Suits

I’m pretty sure I won’t be too jazzed about wearing a bikini right after the babies come, so I will probably invest in a cute one piece like this.

 Shirt Dresses

These are the best, they are comfy (are you sensing a theme here?) and make you look more dressed up than you sometimes feel. I’m pretty positive dresses like this will be my go-to when the little ones arrive and will hopefully make me feel somewhat presentable while living off minimal sleep!

 Everyday Sandals

Yep cute and comfy.

Are you dreaming about Spring as much as I am??

What are your Spring go-to staples?

28 Weeks Pregnancy Update

The belly is growing! I have definitely noticed a difference the past 2 weeks, crazy!!

Baby’s Size: The baby’s weigh 2 1/4 pounds and are the size of large eggplants. The babies can now blink their eyes, have eye lashes, and might be able to see light that filters through the womb. (weird!!)

Total Weight Gain: Not sure, I go in next week for my glucose test (bleh) and a routine ultrasound so I’ll know where I’m at then!

Stretch Marks: None, thankfully. Still religiously using my belly cream morning and night!

Sleep: On and off. I move around a little more at night to get comfy and the last two nights had to get up and eat a snack…those babies sure are hungry! I’m becoming a good napper though, I guess I’m subconsciously training my body to sleep in shifts already!

Best Moment of the Week: Feeling more movement is fun, even if it is at 4am!

Miss Anything: Bending over comfortably….painting my toe nails is getting a little rough.  And of course wine, but I’m actually getting used to it and don’t miss it as much as a month ago!

Movement: Yep!

Cravings: Sugary cereals……captain crunch with berries has been my go-to. Yum!

Looking Forward To: Getting through the gluclose test next week and getting more organized with the nursery. I’ve ordered some cute pictures and a dresser and can’t wait to get the room set up!!

Workouts: I’ve been taking Paisley on some longer walks (about 30-35 minutes) since it’s been warmer out. The dog is definitely forcing me to keep my legs in shape which I like! I also did one of my Bar Method DVD’s at home and went to a Fit 4 Baby class. It’s nice to be in a class and not be the ONLY pregnant one! I do notice my energy can go up and down depending on the day, so I’m trying to listen to my body and rest when I need to.

I’m so thankful my pregnancy has been pretty great so far especially going into the third trimester. Hubby and I are taking a little “baby preparation” class at our hospital in a couple weeks, which I’m excited about….we both have NO idea how to swaddle a baby! Ha!

Hope everyone has a great Friday! Hooray for the weekend!!

When you were pregnant did you take any childbirth classes? What did you think?

Where did you look for inspiration to decorate your nursery?

Thanks for stopping by~ Marielle

Baby Shower and Random Thoughts

I must say today was the first day I woke up and felt like myself again….I’ve been fighting off a mild sickness for the past week and to put it bluntly, it sucked!  I almost feel like last week didn’t exist because I didn’t do much besides sleep and eat. Lame. But oh well, I am back at it this week!

Hubby and I did get out and saw two movies over the weekend….American Sniper and Wild. Both were completely awesome. I didn’t even get up to use the restroom because I didn’t want to miss anything, so that shows you how entertaining they both were!  I just love this time of year with so many new movies out.

I’m thinking of cutting off a little more of my hair and this is my inspiration. I just need to learn how to curl my hair like this….that is always the issue.

This picture is just too cute not share, after one of my naps I went outside to find hubby and Paisley playing basketball together. Literally. She’s a tough little defender.  They were both warn out afterwards, so it was a successful workout for dog and human! Ha!

And lastly, I wanted to share a few pics from my Seattle baby shower from a couple of weeks ago. It went by too fast of course, but was so much fun catching up with everyone that attended. My mom did a great job on all the decorations too 🙂 I can’t wait to see the babies in these cute little onsies!!

babyshower2babyshower3babyshower4babyshowerI hope everyone has a lovely morning!

Have you seen any new movies lately?

How often do you switch up your hair style?

Survey Time

Well this week sure has gotten away from me! I was feeling a little low energy after traveling to Seattle over the weekend (more details on that later), so decided to take it easy this week…no exercising, no organizing, just relaxing. I’m beginning to feel normal again so it worked.

I have always enjoyed reading blogger surveys and saw this one on Fitnessista (one of my favorite blogs) earlier this week, so now I’m sharing it with all of you!

bookI have about 100 pages left in this one, it’s getting pretty intense. Her books are always so good, right?! When I finish this book, I’m going to start “The Memory Child”….this one was recommended from the blog world.

Wearing: Zella Yoga pants and a tank top. This has been my uniform of choice these days.

Watching: I’m totally late to the party, but I just started “Revenge” last night….and OMG, it’s so good, I’m hooked!

Listening: The James Morrison Pandora station…..some easy listening in the morning. 🙂

Eating: Just finished eating scrambled eggs and toast. I’ll be hungry for my next snack in about 2-3 hours. These babies sure like to eat!

Now I want to hear from you: what are you reading, wearing, watching, listening to or eating??

3 Must-Do Exercises for the Pregnant Woman

Good morning everyone!

How’s the week been so far? Hopefully not too painful getting back into the grind after the Holidays. This week is actually going by pretty quick in our household. It has been SO cold (especially compared to Los Angeles) this week and all I want to do is bundle up and stay inside. This morning it was 25 degrees, brrr!! Paisley is not impressed.

Today I wanted to share my favorite exercises for the pregnant lady! Of course there are many more exercises that are beneficial to do, but these are the three I feel like should be incorporated into every program!

Pregnancy Exercises

Why? Lots of picking up, reaching, and setting down the baby. And don’t forget about groceries and all those other household chores forcing you to bend forward! We don’t want to cause a back issue, so keeping those legs and glutes strong is important. Lunges can be performed stationary, stepping, walking, or even lateral and posterior.

Why? Holding, feeding, and reaching into your babies crib is inevitably going to force you into a more “kyphotic” (rounded/forward) posture position, which lengthens and weakens your posture muscles. (Lame!) Any type of rowing exercise (or scapular strengthening) fights against this. Rows can be performed in sitting, standing or in the bent over position. When you are rowing, really focus on pinching your shoulder blades- not hunching your shoulders up towards your ears. For more exercise ideas to improve your posture, visit this article.

draw with marching

For the pregnant woman you may modify this exercise by performing it sitting or elevated with a bolster behind your head and torso so that you are not completely supine.

Why? The bellies are stretching, thus lengthening and weakening your abdominal muscles. Plus the added weight gain and new posture position your body is adjusting to can make it tough to activate your core muscles correctly.

For more detail about how to perform this exercise (it can be a little tricky), check out a past Fit Girl article for a greater explanation.

Once you have this movement down, add in supine marching (alternate lifting your legs) while maintaining that abdominal draw/brace. Your back should not arch and you should feel a subtle awareness in your lower abdominals below your belly button.

Well there you have it folks! I hope that was a little informative for your Thursday 🙂

What is everyone up to this weekend?

Do you perform any of these exercises on a regular basis?

Later! ~Marielle

Lower Body Barre Blast Workout

Happy Monday Everyone!

The holiday season is officially over, how depressing is that?! Hubby and I put away our tree and all our Christmas stuff this past weekend, so it’s official in our house. 😦

The weekend was pretty chill, just the way we wanted it to be. We did some binge watching and plowed through Season 1 of Sons of Anarchy (that got intense the last couple of episodes), saw Mockingjay (finally) in the theatres, and watched football with friends on Sunday. I was able to get in 2 walks with the dog and did a Pop Physique workout DVD at home.

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, then you know how much I adore any type of barre workout, so why not create one to share with you lovely people?

Please see below for exercise instructions on some of the unfamiliar exercises, and of course ask questions if any come up! For an extra burn, go through the circuit 2x. For all exercises make sure you are using hand held support by a chair, couch, or a wall.

Plie Squat

Plie Squat with High Heels (scroll down to the 3rd exercise listed)

High Heel Squat (scroll down to the 3rd exercise listed)

Bridge with a Pelvic Tilt (perform this exercise in a smaller range, raising your hips up just a few inches)

What do you think of Barre Classes? Have you tried one before?

Are you currently binge watching any shows?
