Christmas Recap

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Well I must say our first Christmas in Southern California was a pretty fantastic one. We finally made it to Disneyland!

We woke up bright and early this morning so we could get to Disney before 8am (when it opened).  I was warned by lots of friends that it gets super crowded on holidays.

I took so many pics of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Ha. That was one of my favorite movies growing up!

I’m glad we went early. The first two hours were pretty quiet and we made it on 5 rides with wait times all less than 20 minutes. Score. My favorite ride was Splash Mountain- a old classic.

Once it hit 11:00 AM, the park was PACKED. An employee at Disney (or should I say “cast member”) told us that Christmas Day is the busiest day of the year. Lol woops. We realized this when it took us 20+ minutes to stand in line for some hot chocolate.  Needless to say we left a couple hours later.

On our way out, we stopped and got some of these beauties…..

At Home-Workout Week

My plan was to sleep in this morning because, well, it’s SATURDAY! And lucky me, I was wide awake at 7am! I layed around in bed until about 8, and now I’m here! I guess my body didn’t feel like letting me sleep in. Grrr.  But since I was up, I thought what a perfect time to get some blogging in. 🙂  I have some exciting news to share about my little blog………..

First, if you haven’t noticed already, I have a new design!! I’m SO happy with it and I hope it’s more user friendly for people to navigate around as well.

I contacted Jenny Orcutt last Sunday evening and by Tuesday my new design was up.  She was so great and easy to get in touch with. I don’t know much about designing a blog and all the little details that go along with blogging, and she was extremely helpful throughout the process.  I would recommend her to anyone looking to spice up their blog a bit.  She does full blog makeovers  as well as add-ons (like I did)  You can also follow her on Twitter.

This week I was also contacted by Dean from Diet Bet in hopes of an advertising partnership.

So this week wasn’t my best “workout week.”  I didn’t get sick, but had a headache all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I had planned on getting in lots of working out this week because it’s going to be sparse next week with traveling and Christmas.  I came home from work and all I wanted to do was lay down. So I did.  I managed to get in 1 workout this week and it was my Super Sculpting Bar Method DVD   When I finally felt better, I didn’t feel like going anywhere.  It’s been cold and dark, which is making me want to hibernate at home.

20121219-135217.jpgI haven’t done a workout video in months, but this one was actually pretty challenging.  I always get more out of a workout when I go to class, but this was a good alternative.

I also own the “Insanity” home workouts. I didn’t do any of them this week because I thought all the jumping exercises wouldn’t help with the headache stuff.  These are pretty tough workouts, and I like that you don’t need any equipment either. I wouldn’t recommend someone who is brand new to working out to try these initially, but once you know basic squat form and core activation- go for it!

I’m going to pack these dvd’s with me next week when we are traveling, and hope I can get some good workouts in. 🙂

My Top 3 Stretches For Runners

I’m happy to say that I am about 80% finished with my Christmas shopping! Yahoo! All that’s left is stocking stuffers for my hubby.  I actually enjoy shopping for these b/c I can buy weird random gifts and it’s okay. The fun part is just laughing at what we buy each other 🙂  I think I’ll be perusing the Rite-Aid “Made on tv” section to find some goodies.

We decided that on Christmas day we are going to go to Disneyland!  So excited!  We are celebrating Xmas with our families the weekend after,  so we wanted to go do something a little different and special on Christmas Day. My husband has actually never been to Disneyland (I know, sad right?), so he’s pretty pumped.  I have a feeling this will be the beginning of many trips to Disney. The last time I went I think I was 10, so I’m looking forward to seeing it as an adult.  I don’t even know what rides are the cool ones……but I for sure want to go on Splash Mountain! Ha.

Onto the fitness portion of my post! Stretching. Something that I neglect too, so it’s a good reminder even for me. 🙂

*Keep in mind that maintaining and/or improving flexibility, increasing core and lower body strength can all help to reduce your risk of injury or experiencing an injury due to running.  Current research recommends static stretching at the  end of your workout. When stretching ,ease gently into the stretch and hold for 30 seconds.

There are other muscles to be stretched after running (like the quads and calves), but today I wanted to review the muscle groups that sometimes get neglected.

Hamstrings

While lying on your back, place a rope/towel around your foot and pull your leg up keeping your knee straight.  Try to pull your toes towards your face.

Piriformis

Lay on your back, with knees bent and place one foot on top of the opposite knee. Reach your hands through and pull back on your bottom leg. Push your top knee away from your body. You will feel the stretch in the glutes of your top leg.

Hip Flexors

Place your knee on the ground, slightly behind your body.  The other leg is bent in a “lunge” position with knee stacked on top of ankle.  Lean forward and tuck your pelvis under, while maintaining proper upright posture (abs tight, torso facing forward).  You will feel a stretch in the front of the hip/thigh of the back leg.

In other random news, tonight is the season finale of Homeland, I’m so excited and so sad at the same time.  I’m slightly obsessed with this show and look forward to Sundays mostly so that I can watch it.  I don’t want to say much to ruin it for people, but it’s basically about an American solider, Brody, (Damien Lewis) who was a POW for years, is found and comes back to the US.  Claire Danes’ character is a CIA agent suspicious of Brody and thinks he’s been turned against the US. If you like suspenseful shows that make you think, check it out. Ahhh I’m so excited to watch it tonight!!!

Winter Fit Workout

Hi Blogger Friends!

The weekend is coming to an end and I haven’t done any Christmas shopping yet! Eek.  I was hoping to get some done this weekend, but it did not happen.  I got my nails done with my girlfriends instead, lol.

I’m going to try to research ideas online (Amazon & Nordstrom?) tonight, hoping I can channel my inner creativity.  Usually I have some idea of what I’m buying people, but this year I don’t and it’s just coming up so fast. Waaa.  The busy crowds deter me from heading to the malls, so online shopping suits me perfectly.  Sigh………………..I still have a few weeks to figure it all out………..

I haven’t created a new workout in awhile, so I was excited to write one this weekend.  This is another one of my at-home circuits.  You’ll need a mat, a light set of dumbbells (3-5#), a stopwatch, and water.

Quick Form Tips For the Unique Exercises in the Circuit 🙂

Long Sit Ups is another term for v-ups.

Plie Squats- Make sure feet are wider than hip width with toes pointed out, keep knees in line with 2nd toe, not dipping inward.

Squat Jumps: Jump squat rotating clockwise a 1/4 (45 degrees), jump squat back to starting position, then jump counterclockwise another 45 degrees. Repeat! Hope that one makes sense, lol.

Arm Punches: Perform one arm at a time, punching straight forward at shoulder height. Repeat on opposite side.

Me Time

It’s been awhile blogger friends! For some reason it’s been a busier week for me, nothing super eventful to share, I just feel like I haven’t had much time to sit down and write 🙂

This weekend I had a surprise visit from a friend from College that was competing in a bike race down here in LA.  I picked her up from the airport on Saturday morning and was able to spend some time with her before she left for her races.  We grabbed coffee and I of course took her down to Manhattan Beach.   It was a cloudy day, but I think the beach still looks perfect.

Oh and surprise: Free Parking for 2 hours down near the Beach.  Score!

Saturday night I had some wonderful “me time.”  The hubby went to a basketball game with a buddy, and instead of making plans with my girlfriends I decided to just hang out with myself. 🙂

First things first: I got a 90 minute massage.  SO wonderful.  I haven’t had a massage in about a year, which is so bad because of how active I am.  I almost fell over when I first stood up because my legs felt so relaxed.  I’m hoping my muscles to hate me anymore.

I went back home and downloaded some episodes from season 1 of Girls. I’m obsessed with this show. If you haven’t seen it yet, please do.  I’d compare it to a younger version of Sex and the City, expect swapping a martini for a Bud light.  It’s hilarious.  Not many shows make me laugh out loud, but this one does.  My husband even likes to watch this show with me, and he usually doesn’t like any of my “girly shows.” (Bachelor, Real Housewives…..still don’t understand why but that’s besides the point) 🙂

Season 2 is coming out this January, so if you haven’t seen it yet you still have time to catch up!

This morning I went to my Bar Method class and it was killer.  I’m already starting to feel my legs getting sore.  Such a good feeling.

Well I’m going to put the computer away and cheer on the Cowboys for my husband the rest of the evening 🙂 I’m hoping to share a new workout with you all later this week….stay tuned and be excited as always !
